After commenting on another thread it got me thinking, has there been any music stars who have successfully made it into the film industry?

Jennifer Lopez U Turn and Out of sight but don't mention Gigli!

NO

Madonna The obvious one, her only film of note involved lots of singing.

David Bowie One word Labyrinth

Samantha Mumba Looked great in the remake of the Time Machine but couldn't act for toffee
 
Kris Kristofferson.

Whichever Goss brother out of Bros.

Numerous gangster rappers.

That Wahlberg fella. Less so his brother.
 
Beyonce is doing alright for herself

Austin Powers, The fighting temptations, Dreamgirls and Obsessed have all done well at the box office.
 
Did she? I wouldn't know because I was only born in '92 and I assume this was sometime in the 80's?

I guess it doesn't means he is good. A lot of rubbish actors have got Oscar nominations.
 
Good grief no. If a scientist were to look under their microscope and think they were looking at a cure for insomnia, chances are they'd have mixed the slides up with Will Smith's talent.
 
I think it was for Mask where she played the mother of a kid with a deformed face. It was an okay film from what I can remember. She was a biker chick mom, her performance was alright but nothing major I personally couldn't understand what everyone was making a fuss about!

Also RZA does a fine job on screen. Method Man in the Wire aint half bad. Ludacris in Crash. Xzibit's done a couple of things.

Cant say the same for Ja Rule though. Munchkin.
 
Her first Oscar nomination was for Silkwood (opposite Meryl Streep), not for Mask. She won an Oscar for Moonstruck.

She won Best Actress at Cannes Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination for Mask. But nothing to do with the Oscars.

Frank Sinatra has to be the best example, he won an Oscar and was in several very good films.

A couple of others in the Rat Pack also made the jump from singing to acting,
Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin, but not in the same league.
 
I was just about to say that Nick_2005.
Frank Sinatra was probably the best transition from music to acting.

Bing Crosby is another one I can add to the list.
 
Oh yes I remember now you're quite right Moonstuck with Nicholas Cage!

What about Bob Dylan, he's done a couple of films hasn't he? Never seen any of them but I'm a great fan of his music :D
