Music recommendations please!

Hi, I am a rabid Foo Fighter fan, and also like Nirvana. I've been trying to get into other music, but it's very difficult as most other stuff sucks. Some banRAB I've tried recently, and hated, include:

-The Pixies
-Sonic Youth
-Pearl Jam
-Radiohead
-Led Zeppelin
-KISS
-Alice In Chains
-Soundgarden
-Stone Temple Pilots
-Dinosaur Jr.
-Mudhoney
-Fu Manchu
-Metallica

There's bound to be others that I'm forgetting, but this should give you some idea. Basically I'm dying for some hot new music to listen to, but the more and more I try, the more I get discouraged and start to think "Is there ANYTHING out there that I'll like?"

Basically if any of you good people could give me some suggestions of new music to try I'd greatly appreciate it. It can be "grungy" or not, but please keep in mind what I like (which is obviously very limited!) and what I do not (based on the above list).

Thanks for any help!

P.S. What does my man Dave Grohl see in Lemmy Kilmister?!? Man that Lemmy has an AWFUL voice! Damn!!!

I'm glad that you hated a lot of those banRAB *coughledzeppelincough* and am a little dissapointed you hated some others. :[

If that isn't your style try:

Cat Power

Bright Eyes
Animal Collective
The Smiths
The Go Team
Sigur Ros
Explosions in the Sky
The Arcade Fire
Bob Dylan
The Blood Brothers
Broken Social Scene
The Deceraberists
Deerhoof
Devandra Banhart

All great musicians.

Foo Fanatic, how bout you tell us what you disliked about those banRAB you listed, so we can better understand your taste and have some basis for recommendation.

There are some people who will never be able to apreciate those banRAB. Some will listen for a couple seconRAB and then tune-out, turned off by the "experimentalism" and the stigma that goes with it. Others will listen carefully and simply not like what they hear. A lot of people's ears are tuned to and conditioned for pop and other mainstream sounRAB, and anything else sounRAB too off-kilter. This is not an insult to those people, simply what seems to be a fact. Being a Nirvana fan and not liking Pixies doesn't compute though. They are one the biggest influences on Cobain and the guys and you can really hear it in the way they blend pop-structure and tunefullness with the abrasive agression of thrash and punk. Listen to "Debaser" and tell me you can't hear nirvana in there. Feel free to dislike them, but keep in mind they have greatly affected you never the less.

You like the Foo's and Nirvana but hated PJ, AIC and Soundgarden?

Strange.

Give the Meat Puppets and Screaming Trees a go for starters. Tried Guns n Roses, other then their hits? What about ACDC? Though hating Lemmy's voice will probably be an indication of whether you'd like these guys or not.

Most people who like the Foo Fighters love Mr. Bungle and Fantomas;)

Thanks for all the replies guys, I guess I have some listening to do. As for the guy who doesn't like Dave Grohl I do not see how this is possible: Grohl is awesomely talented, a nice guy, and has a great sense of humor. . . what's not to like?

I was sick yesterday which is why i haven't been listening to any music, however I did try Alice in Chains again and still REALLY hate them (That guy's voice is disgusting!). I'll try some more suggestions tommorrow (it takes a while to download as well [it's legal in Canada, btw!]), and we'll see how that goes.

On a side note I'm planning on taking guitar lessons (for the 3rd time!), and even though not much music inspires me it should be something to do with my spare time, and plus it can't hurt my chances with the ladies right?!

Keep the suggestions rolling and, imo, I heard Nirvana in Mudhoney a lot more than I did in the Pixies (most/all Pixies' songs were off Surfer Rosa).

Thanks guys.

Mediocre efforts.

Awesome talent, but hasn't used it in a while. Not really since his drumming for Probot, though I don't really follow all his work. Grohl is the kind of guy who you respect for being multi talented but don't like because he bites off more then he can chew. I would much rather see him do high quality drumming for most of his career and maybe a bit of on the side guitaring, compared to being good at a few things but spectacular at nothing.

I also thought In Your Honor was poor and overated to the extreme.
