Me and and friend met up recently after not talking for a looong while . So we're talking and we both realize we want to do the same thing: Produce Hip Hop Music. Now before ppl start their rants, this is not no overnight dream, or sudden interset. I myself have an extreme passion for music and can play the piano rather well, and am young, 19, i have my whole life ahead of me. Anyways we decided to put together to get studio equipment( and put in my house). And as of today, i've invested nearly $800 dollars towards equipment; Him, none. We have completely different taste in music. He likes Southern Hip Hop(Plies, Iceberg, Trick, Rick, and ect.) And while i listen to ah little of that, i listen to all hip-hop music, but love the Underground scene, especially with old school roots. Like Kanye, Lupe, J. Cole, Classic Jay, Pac, UGK, Lauryn Hill, The Game and stuff like that. And since i got my equipment, he calls me frequently to try and lay something down, but only ends up wasting time and not getting very far. But i do see some good qualities in him also, like he has trememdous drive, and confidence, and passion, but just lacks focus and commitment. So I just feel like its ah lost cause and our styles don't match, and in the end he'd just hold me back. It's like he's in it for the dream but doesn't want to put in the research or time to study the craft or open his mind for that matter to the WORLD of music. So is there ah way we could work together, like basically show him some stuff love and constructive criticism, or should i do my own thing. And how to go about telling him?
