Music Hoarder?

I do it intentionally. I'm setting myself up so when music stops being so freely available I'm still set for years and years.

I also still manage to find albums I love on a regular basis and they get as much play as they would have back in the days of dubbing tapes.

I don't really buy cd's very often anymore because even though I love having the artwork and everything, I don't want to have a whole bunch of cd cases I have to lug around with me every time I move for the rest of my life. If I buy a cd I'll take out the booklet to consolidate but then the disc is floating around without a case (though those thin jewel cases are a good compromise) and I die a little inside when I throw out the case that has the artwork still glued into the back (do you guys know a good way to remove that? is it easy? i guess I've never tried)
So even though it's nice to have your huge music collection chillin there for everyone to see I've kind of accepted that looking through my itunes is the equivalent of that for me. I buy albums online a lot.

The two main hoarding problems for me are:
1) that there are some non-metal banRAB that I think are really good but I never listen to them because I'd always prefer to listen to metal. I have to keep them though because when I have non-long-haired company I want to play them something more friendly to their tastes.
2) When I learn about a new artist I download their discography but when I listen to them I just listen to their whole discography beginning to end and it's hard for me to differentiate between albums.

The best way for me to get familiar with albums again is to make a cd of it and listen to it in my car. The speakers are way better anyway :P

Yeah maybe one day I'll do it, because I really do love artwork and it has always gone hand in hand with music for me. But I won't do it till I switch to an app other than iTunes, since it has a really messed up way of storing it. I really don't care about it displaying on my current device though (iPod Nano), the screen is too small to care. But coverflow on the computer would be nice. And eventually I'll have a device with a larger screen.

I think the biggest problem for me is not getting around to organizing the information for music I've downloaded that came out all weird. I just never listen to it cuz it's all disorganized but I don't deleted cuz I'm like... one day... i will fix this and listen to it...one day.

Yeah. True.
But I buy CD's no matter what.
I hate the idea of downloaRAB and I love getting the albums you can pychsically hold the album, you have the artwork right there in front of you, not just a small little image on a screen, and you get a lyrics booklet, which usually includes art too.
And sometimes, you can get deluxe versions of albums. So you get extra stuff.
So no matter what the cost. I'm always gonna stick with CD's, until, if the sad, sad day ever comes, that there are no more CD's, and all music is digital.

Oh, and also, I like the sound of the music blasting from my Radio rather than sound of the music playing from my Ipod, there is a difference. Most people like the Ipod sound better though because the quality's the best, but I don't.

You guys are right about the availability of music affecting how much we get to "know" albums, but I think a lot more of it has to do with my collection just being large in general. When it was smaller and first starting out, it was easy to give each album the attention it deserves. Now I have thousanRAB of albums, so of course it just become unfeasible to really study all of them. There are still plenty of albums I have discovered recently that I find myself listening to over and over.

I have a lot of music. A lot of it I haven't listened to. A lot of I like. A lot of it I hate.

I'd consider myself a hoarder in that I don't delete even the albums I don't like. I'm not even sure why I do this. I might go delete the stuff I don't enjoy right now actually.

Sometimes I dedicate days to listening to nothing but albums that I don't even vaguely remeraber the sound of. Usually, they are albums that didn't impress me upon first listen. Sometimes, I find an album I am amazed with all of the sudden. It's like it just took the proper mood for me to "get" the album.

This is why I keep absolutely everything.

I really need to get on it! But i download a lot while I'm at work and I can't really spend time doing that... i would do it when i get home but I admit... I'm not on my computer very much. I just turn it on, put on a cd and then go about my business. I should dedicate a bunch of time to it. But for instance, I downloaded the ministry discography and it is the most f***ed up thing I have ever seen!!!! I have like 5 copies of the same songs and idk.... I have to look up each individual album to see which songs are on which. So time consuming...
But you're right. It's important! It would make looking at my itunes so much more zen.

Oh cool I totally thought that thing was glued in there!
The best way to disasserable the case (which is also incredibly helpful for getting off that annoying sticker they put across the top) is to stick your nail under the hinge at the top or bottom of the spine of the case and lift ever so slightly, then just slide it away from the other part of the case. The way it's constructed is that there is that little peg at the top and bottom that fits into a hole in the top like a hinge. Just attack it from right there and you'll never break a case again. (if you're trying to get the sticker off you have to start from the bottom)

Sorry its a little hard to explain but It's really simple and if you look at a cd you'll get it.

Me too. Every time I import an album onto my computer, I drag it into a backlog playlist. After 3 or 4 plays I'll take it out of there. Sometimes I'll shuffle this playlist to see what grabs my attention. It's quite a large playlist.

I completely agree with you. i discovered that after downloading a few discographies. Cuz then I have their whole discography and play it all the way through and afterward I have no way of differentiating the albums. It's totally the right way to go to just download individual albums.
