Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Yes are the first artist not to be nominated into the Hall of Fame, doesn't mean that they can't ever get in though so maybe one day in the future?

King Crimson

While Pink Floyd is certainly the most popular Prog band, King Crimson is just as certainly the most popular band with ProgheaRAB. They're also arguably the most innovative band of the modern rock era, consistently reinventing themselves with just one constant meraber, but never settling for the current trend, never sacrificing artistic integrity for a more popular LP. Not to mention they've had more incredibly talented musicians than any other Rock band I know of. Robert Fripp is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Bruford one of the greatest drummers. They're very popular here and certainly deserve a shot at the hall of fame.

I don't think you have to be for an artist if they don't appeal to you. I can't speak for other merabers of the gestapo (:)), but I certainly respect your opinion. In the case of someone like Chuck Berry I'm just throwing his level of influence out there as something to consider even if his music isn't something that would make it onto your personal playlist. The man's influence on rock and genres related to rock is vast, so vast and ubiquitous that I think sometimes it's hard for people to even see it because a lot of it has come to be just taken as a given.

Looking at the polls each week there really aren't that many of them, and the few of that there are join the, usually quite large, majority.

As for the Monks it's a huuuuuuge yes. I've only had the album for a few months but i'm confident in saying it's in my top 10 60's albums. It's eccentric, it's catchy and most of all it's fun, 3 factors i always look for in music. Essential stuff.

Honestly, I would be highly surprised if RHCP didn't make it into the HOF and I would be appalled if those decisions were based on the tail end of their discography.

Their first 4-5 albums were fantastic and I think most people would be hard pressed not to find something they like there... they had a fun, energetic and sex fuelled brand of funk/punk and no-one sounded quite like them. From there, they could have stagnated but instead evolved... even if this change was arguably for the worse, they at least maintained an identity throughout. People are quite divided on their last four albums - I find OHM to be great (like most fans) but I consider Cali mediocre, By the Way a good pop album and Stadium Arcadium to be a steaming turd. I won't go into the influence thing - you need only think of the countless nurabers of people who have picked up bass guitar after hearing Flea play.

I guess what I'm saying through this poorly disguised fanboyism is FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, DON'T VOTE BASED ON THAT P.O.S. HEY OH SONG OR HOW TIRED YOU ARE OF HEARING SCAR TISSUE ON THE RADIO

meh. they'll get in anyway, and I'll go against the majority for this one. Fell out of love with them many moons ago. Can't say if it's the cod-politics (haha. cod) or that affected working class accent but i'm just voting no. There's nothing wrong with them musically, I used to f*cking LIVE this band but i feel it was a wasted opportunity. And no by their own standarRAB (whatever the f*ck they were) they probably didn't sell out.

Please don't shout at me

Hey, first nomination I've listened to enough to make a judgement.

I'm going to say no, their whole sound just doesn't appeal to me so much. And despite their influence and legacy (which I actually feel is a little overstated), quality music is still the biggest factor.

I never said that Joy Division shouldn't be in, I love Joy Division. They were just an easy example because the rab community loves its Joy Division. And NMH has a LOT of (sometimes awesome, sometimes just really weird) unreleased stuff.

Anyway, I struggled a bit on this nomination since, personally, I've never liked Iron Maiden. When I was growing up, my cousin was a huge fan of them and as a kid I used to love looking at the Maiden posters he had plastered all over his bedroom. I always imagined they would sound super-scary and edgy. When I finally heard what they sounded like in junior high I remeraber being sorely disappointed by how hokey they were musically. I've given them numerous chances over the years in the hopes that they'd click with me but to no avail.

That said, as fan of metal in general, I recognize how influential they were, and for that reason I do think they belong in the hall of fame. So I voted yes, even though I'm still a bit jaded by the infamous rab Chuck Berry catastrophe. :p:

Hell no. One of the most overrated musicians of all time, and certainly the most overrated reggae artist. I find his music very dull and uninspiring.

There's two reasons I like you: 1. You like Arrested Development 2. You're a total ******* all the time. At no point did I complain about the nominations, I was whining about the process in general. Though now that it's been put out there, the last few noms have been sub-par. Not because they're bad, but because they're not artists that get talked about often on rab. I know if I nominate something, I'll get this quoted and thrown back in face, but **** it. Might as well do something productive on this site.
