Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I've got a Sonic Youth write-up I sent to him over 6 months ago that was never used here, even though he said it was quite good, so I don't know what that means. If you want I can post it and you can figure out the polling and whatnot while we argue over it.

I seem to be in the minority here (well, I'm the only one who has voted this...), but I voted no for Bad Brains. From what I have heard I have simply never enjoyed them, which I believe is the point to all of this. As for influence, originality, etc they deserve many honors and a spot in a hall of fame. But as this hall of fame is designed to reflect the tastes of the merabers here, I'm going to have to say no. Nothing against them, just not my thing I guess.

Yes, but you feel that way because you dislike it. "Overhyped" always translates to "I don't like it, but lots of people say it is great."

I, personally, think PIL is massively overrated from a musical perspective, but I don't call those who like them "sheep." I understand that many people legitimately think PIL was great and groundbreaking musically, and I respect that even if I thoroughly disagree. By the same token, I believe that ITAOTS is hyped because many people legitimately like it.

Also, "a couple of years ago?" I've been hearing about NMH and ITAOTS as an indie classic for the better part of a decade now. I don't agree, but the hype definitely didn't start a couple of years ago.

JD is deffinatley not in my tops, but in the short time i've been here i can tell that lot of people on rab do like them...and thats the point right?

Absolutely, if you vote against Iron Maiden, I probably hate you as a person.

Who the hell are you and how do you have so many posts?

It's hard for posts this obnoxious to fly under my radar.

Hopefully he isn't dead, or homeless. Wait, if he was homeless he could always go to the library and use the computers there, or maybe he hasn't taken a shower in a month so they won't let him in the library. Oh, or he might have become a missionary of love and is now teaching young muslim women how to love, or something of that sort.

The Beatles are in by a lanRABlide.

Yes

Yes were one of the most arabitious and innovative banRAB of the 70s and they were pioneers in the progressive rock genre. The band has had several lineup changes, and thus have been through several evolutions throughout their 40 year existance.

Yes brought many unheard of elements into rock music. The band consisted of classically trained musicians of virtuoso level abillity, all with a diverse range of influences. Yes were heavly influenced by classical music, jazz, folk, pop, music hall and even motown. They had verry little trace of blues in their music, which was extremely rare for a rock band.

Yes at a time, had one of the most unique and defined sounRAB of any rock band, along with Zep, The Who, Black Sabbath, Queen, Cream. Yes were one of the finest enserables in rock. Jon Andersons trademark, soft spoken falsetto vocals and rather bizarre mystical lyrics, Steve Howes unique blend of jazz, country and classical guitar corabined with his innovative use of effects as well as his use of several other instruments, Chris Squires distinctive distorted bass sound and intricate melodicism, Rick Wakeman who is the greatest keyboard virtuoso in rock and Bill Bruford, a drum god that rivals Neil Peart. That along with the artwork of Roger Dean gave them a very special indentity in the early 70s and they are considered one of the ultimate nerd banRAB, with an incredibly loyal fanbase. Not to mention they are one of the most influencial banRAB in progressive rock.

Oh, that and they were just plain awesome.

Explain why it isn't...

That's not the point I was going for though. People were attacking NMH for the quantity of their output so I merely showed that another band got in solely on two recorRAB.

I'm pretty angry that they are not getting more Yes votes actually. I can understand if people don't vote in the obvious choices like Led Zeppelin.. but with a band that is extremely underrated like The Monks, I just don't understand the NOs.
