Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

No matter who they may have influenced, I've never cared for their music and found them to be rather cheesy. And

aren't exactly brilliant acts either. A no from me.

Tsskk. They have made some terribly average tracks but when their early stuff is arabient Orb/Floyd electronic musings and their later stuff incorporates chunky riRAB and blissed out arabience, Jackhammer say yes (one of his faves :D).

I don't say yes just because I like a band or artist. It has to be more than that for me to enter them into a Hall of Fame. There's been some I've been a big fan of but voted no for that reason and I'm sure plenty more.

I've nominated someone who would get into any hall of fame but I predict he won't on this forum. Just have to wait and see.

I accept Yes's defeat, though I'm still a sad panda. :(

But anyone who actually votes no to King Crimson is just being an ass, well it's good to know you all haven't gone completely mad. ;)

King Crimson are so damn good, unlike Yes they never really had any lowpoints in their career, they have so many good albums to choose from and they all have their own unique flavor. They have gone through god knows how many lineup changes but whoever's in the band it's always someone that's incredibly talented. Robert Fripp is truly one of the most innovative guitarists ever, and he's such an odd and very hurable fellow too, just watch some interviews with the guy, he's like the last person you'd expect to have a rock band, let alone one like King Crimson. KC are so talented, they are such prolific musicians too, even if you don't like KC rest assured, Fripp, Belew or Levin have appeared in at least one of your favorite albums, no matter who you are, thats how highly demanded they are as session musicians.

I think they're starting work on a new album with Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree as their new drummer, I'm pretty psyched about it, they've never had a bad album really, their worst album is ConstruKction of Light and even it's still decent.

These guys are my nuraber one band on LastFM too. Tough to pick a favorite, but ITCOTCK, Lizard, Red and Discipline are all way up there for me.

I'll ignore the most recent offenses against Zeppelin and shift the attention to Joy Division as it should be here.

Just because something is different or unique does not mean it's good. I am not trying to say Joy Division should be excluded, I am just offering counter point here.

I listen to a song like "Twenty Four Hours" and hear sort of average version of the Cure with an edge that may or may not be premeditated. Now there is no doubt they were innovators and are probably as responsible as anyone for the Grunge and Alternative rock movements of the 1990's showing their range of influence long after Curtis expired. But they don't get credit from me for the work of other banRAB whose music I can relate to and like.

Here are my main gripes with the Music

It can be boring as I mentioned slow and methodical without any defining instrumental performance to cling to. I'll listen to substance and find myself almost ignoring the music.

I find the vocals annoying at times and far from astounding technically. Chalk it up to I just don't get it, its creative and it fits the music but I don't relate and thus I don't get the appeal.

Even in songs I tend to like "Glass" for example, there are moments (such as when Curtis' vocals begin in this song) where I cringe because the music just misses in my opinion. Too inconsistent and experimental, not enough nuts and bolts of music for me.

All that said I am probably going to vote yes because I think they represent a really smart and thoughtful fan base here on rab.

I went to the pictures last year to watch The Future is Unwritten, and to be honest Strummer did come across as a bit of a......errrrr......two hat, but are not all the good ones like that?

It is easily said, but London Calling is an immense album, with Sandinista for me confirming that this band were not your average punk band and actually were quite interesting and crossed quite a few genres in their time.....being quite adventurous with their music, something which I think they dont get enough credit for.

It also neeRAB to be said that Mick Jones produced the greatest British album of the last ten years with The Libertines' Up The Bracket, which in my view gave the British scene a good kick up the rear.

So all things considered, its a yes

Gentleman. The criteria is ours alone. And by our measurement alone should banRAB be judged. No prerequisite is too good, or bad for judging these acts.

If you're against allowing a band in because you don't like what they stood for, then so be it. This Hall of Fame (i assume this was PMO's intention) belong to rabroad, and by that marker, we ought to do what rab, namely us, thinks should go.

I'm more than satisfied in voting against Pink Floyd but for Big Black. I would be greatly disappointed if we ended up drafting off the lead of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Basically I voted no because I'd never even heard of the band. I'm not a musical noob. All I know from reading this thread is they are techno? Let's induct banRAB like Kraftwerk before we try to induct these guys.
