Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Sooo...I've decided to put the Hall of Fame on hold for a week.

In the meantime, you all can send me as many nominations as you desire. Make sure you at least have a write up on why you're nominating the band/artist.

I look forward to logging on to an inbox overflowing with PM's!

I'm not sure if jackhammer is taking this over or not, but I'd be willing to give it a whirl if someone will fill me in on how this works.

Edit: Yeah, I've read your post a few pages back Lat. Seeing as how I'm not sure who all has been put up for nomination thus far (as in, noRAB sent to PMO that he hasn't put up), I guess I can either try to get a list from him or start fresh with suggestions.

I had an albums of theirs on my computer a while ago, and it sounded every bit as gangsta (in the bad sence) at NWA. Furthermore, their public appearance is also very reminiscent of contemporary acts who classified themselves with that term.

Just to make things clear, "gangsta" is a very loose genre for me, and isn't intrinsically bad. It simply denotes an anti-establishment minRABet, though misogyny, homophobia and racism usually come with it, sadly. Wu-Tang Clan's songs tend to contain elements of the latter, which is why I voted no.

It can actually be dangerous if we use "fascist", "Nazi" etc. too often, as it makes the worRAB lose their meaning. The worRAB are then less powerful when describing actual fascist or nazi movements.

Yes but this isnt the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, its OUR Hall of Fame. We can have in it whoever we want. When we start using influence as deciding factors then surely we could just make a huge list right now of a large nuraber of artists who are in and not even bother asking people for opinions? I dont know, it just seems to me that if thats the case then for the likes of The Beatles this was just a waste of time, may as well have just put them in and moved onto the next one. That could go for a lot of artists.

I understand people thinking the exact opposite as well however. It's clearly gonna divide opinions as to what the criteria is that we should consider. Maybe influence should be a part of it but how big a part I don't know. Too little and we start kicking out Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, The Beatles etc to put what in their place exactly? Too much and a lot of the time it barely seems worthwhile asking for anyones opinions.

As I said, I cant really offer a suggestion as the way I personally think it should be done to avoid this so I'm certainly not saying I am right or I am wrong, it's just opinion.

First nomination where i need to listen to more before voting. I dislike most rap/hip-hop(although i do listen to some...) but I'm not goona let my bias take over yet. Lets see how it goes.

I'm not really sure. On the one hand I don't like them very much (besides a handful of songs) and I never really have. On the other hand, given their influence it'd be a crime if they didn't at least make the induction round. Plus the way they changed direction with In Utero when they could so easily have cashed in on a success formula earns them that little bit more respect from me.

I'm gonna stay out of this one as well.

The Monks sadly do not go through. I hate you guys.

Next up from Dac
