Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

At least they are actually over there now. It's not that long since Muse recorRAB were just getting pulled and going out of print because their sales over there were so poor.

Anyway, as i've stated I don't vote based on influence or impact or any of that garbage and don't really see the point in allowing stuff like that to alter your vote, not in OUR own HOF. It's a yes from me. I didn't like Showbiz when I first heard it, then decided to watch them at V2001 and was blown away. I bought Origin of Symmetry which was released the day after, on my way home from the festival and fell in love with it. There isnt a Muse record I DONT like but OOS is by far and away their strongest record in my opinion. I've heard people criticise Matt's lyrics and thats cool, some of their stuff doesnt really focus around a strong set of lyrics I must agree but SOME of his lyrics, mainly in that one record are lyrics I really do like a lot. Their live performances blow me away, they are one of the tightest live banRAB i've seen and as far as very mainstream pop banRAB go there hasnt been many quite like Muse in this country for some time now.

I may not be as big a fan as I once was and I can criticse the band more freely than I once could but in terms of banRAB and albums that have had significant impact on MY music taste and the way it has evolved that I STILL respect and listen to now I think it would defeat the point of this thread to take one of my mine and vote no, now wouldnt it?

I'm getting desperate.

Can everybody that votes at least clarify how familiar they are with the band?

Because way too many people seem to only be familiar with this band for Owner of a Lonely Heart and for the "King Arthur on Ice" guy.

If you've only heard a few songs from a band or artist, then I think you should refrain from voting unless you're voting based on their impact and contributions and what not. I'll gladly upload songs or albums or anything if you think you need more to go on before you can cast your vote.

It's not fascist, it's just asking for appropriate behavior on the board... if he explains himself and has a legit reason for the vote, I imagine it would remain up... otherwise one has to assume that at least part of his reasoning was to just be shithead...come clean!

I only got a singles collection, since I heard they're more of a singles band than an album band. Any tips about what album I should get first?

Anyway, a yes from me.

Oh God, for sure i voted yes... This is a no brainer, every great guitarist i love loves Hendrix. Every great musician loves him. Every great songwriter loves him... To say you love guitar rock and you don't think Hendrix i significant is kinda like being a Christian but denying that Jesus was important...

Beefy is in, next up from Double X

Nick Cave

Nick Cave is intelligent. Also a little schizophrenic and dark. He sings about God, death, suffering, etc.

When I first heard this in a description I think a normal reaction to this would be "another darkened spiritual prince? yawn". I mean honestly, a decade after Jim Morrison, with Ian Curtis, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, and others playing the "doomsday guru" card, you would think Nick Cave would be another one of those guys.

However, Nick Cave has many things going for him. He's incredibly literate - and knows how to use it. He quotes the bible to good effect without sounding like a fundy, plus if he doesn't have anything new to say, he can expert at saying it a different way. He reaRAB a large amount of poetry, philosophy, and many novels. Exceptional songwriter all around.

Second, he always finRAB the right people to play with him. Even though he is usually in the spotlight, he has had Mick Harvey, Blixa Bargeld, and Rowland Howard play with him. All of those men are very talented musicians, especially Howard.

And of course, he is exceptionally talented. You don't get the feeling he is a pretentious dicknose, and watching his performances there is definitely something going on. His voice is one of my favorites. Sarcastic, drenched in postmodernism, and all around dark. He sort of has the Dylan syndrome, just need to get used to the voice and you will get immersed by it.

Okay finally (to prevent this from being a rarable), he is one of the most consistent artists in music history. Not 'consistent' like Paul McCartney, but reliable that I stopped reading reviews for his albums and just buy one whenever I see it. Never disappointed, always thoroughly enjoy them. Which is weird, because no matter what he does, Nick Cave always has his distinctive sound and struggles with diversity.

If I haven't convinced you to vote for him...here's his most popular songs showing his 3 'stages'.

The Birthday Party - Dead Joe (from Junkyard)

You must like one of these - go out and an get album. And vote for him here.

Song 2 was written as a joke by the band. It was making funny of typical American rock and just about written on the spot hence Damon's nonsensical lyrics. The irony of it was it became a big hit in the states. But it wasn't their first hit in the states There's No Other Way and Girls & Boys were also hits, though I don't know if they were big ones.

Ditto :(

On that note I've never met anyone in RL who's heard of Sigur Ross. Including myself..

I listened to one album and gotta say that although I can't get into it, I can see why you all could. I guess I'm not voting then.
