Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Its a close one for me, but im going to vote yes.

On one hand the Chili Peppers bore me, their output can be rather bland as in i am very rarely ever in the mood to listen to it and so their appeal is most definitely limited.

However they have played a part in my musical maturity. When i was in my teens i heard Otherside and remeraber flicking through music channels for hours to see the video over and over again. My sister then brought me a promo of Californication home from work so i could listen to it. I have a feeling i may be in the minority here but yes, you can argue that their first 4 albums are their best and maybe they are but i also have a soft spot for Californication and By The Way.

Good enough and just say important enough to me to scrape a yes, but it was a close one.

Pet SounRAB is without a doubt their best album, they've released other great ones but nothing that came close to touching it (not even Brian Wilson's Smile.) It's perfectly acceptable to vote having only heard Pet SounRAB.

I've said this before and will say it again. Sigur Ros and most other post rock artists just don't do it for me. Listening to music shouldn't be a task, or a waiting game, or trying to figure out where the music is amongst all the near silence. Who makes music that is essentially nothing? A BAND THAT HAS NOTHING TO SAY OR OFFER. Thats who, if your going to listen to this crap, why not just stop listening to music all together and sit and stare out the window for an hour, save yourself the 14 bucks. What a waste of tape and studio time.

In conclusion I will say, Not just no, but HELL NO.

I think he was always going to get in by a very long way. I don't think he's necessarily safe though, musically he definitely isn't at all and i'd put the positive votes to people here having good taste and erabracing the ecclectic which can be backed up by Big Black being put in.

Go on any music forum on the internet and Bob Dylan will be put in but i'm not sure that'll happen on the same scale for Waits.

My personal faves/recs:

  • Naked City
  • Torture Garden
  • Radio

You can just say you don't like the music instead of essencially telling us that we're voting for him because he's obscure.

I could debate with you back and forth about why the music is good but that'd be pointless. You like what you like and have a right not to like something. I'm just saying that I'm sure people will vote for him because they genuinly enjoy his music, which is the reason I nominated him.
