Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

if you don't like the music, fine, but at least have a reason pertaining to the actual music.

look, i'm not trying to start some big arguement or something, i'm just stating my opinion. sorry if i didn't make it clear before

i think one of the largest problems people have with Tool is the image which they provoke from people as this pseudo-intellectual, drug-erabalmed cultural virus that stains everything in their wake. and it's easy to get disenchanted with them when their fans project such rabidly moronic philosophies.

i can imagine the measured antagonistic attitude from people here but it's really all old hat from my perspective. hating on Tool is just about as imaginative as hating on U2 -- you really don't give a shit about the music, but damn is their frontman annoying.

Belle And Sebastian

Belle And Sebastian were formed in 1996 and went on to become arguably the best Twee band. With seven great albums under thier belt and a new one out this year they are a band that just keep on releasing solid stuff. They have influenced hundreRAB of indie banRAB over the past few years and are definetly a band that will keep on influencing and will be remerabered fondly in twenty years time. Another great thing about them is that thier easy to get into and i've persuaded some very small minded frienRAB to listen. Great band and they always put me in a good mood. Selection of best songs, this is hard:

So guys get voting it neeRAB to be done!

Who is the person who deciedes to make that post?

I'll vote yes because from the little I've heard I can see the appeal and the people here who like them do an excellent job stating their case for why. Will be interesting to see if they can sneak into the induction round.

I do have to warn you about Relayer, it's one of my favorites now but it took me a couple of listens. Gates of Delirium and Soundchaser are considered the most inaccessible pieces of music they've ever done. Gates especially, it's a 20 minute long song about an epic battle and it's a very challenging listen, you'll either love it or hate it.

I certainly don't think you'll consider this one boring though.

Oh, and one more thing, theres a certain part during Soundchaser where Jon Anderson sings "cha cha cha, cha cha" repetitively. Just so you know.

I just got Vs. a few weeks ago and have only listened to it once. They influenced a ton of my favorite banRAB, but even if I like Vs. I think I would have a hard time voting "yes"...

I nearly voted no, as they're not far off being given away for free as part of a Mail on Sunday supplement.

Thats not a real reason to refuse this great band entry, but is tempting just to annoy folk who rate them because Radio 1 say they're goRAB because they're old and played Live 8, but then again those people don't come on here so sod them.

They've got far too much stuff going on under the radar obviously for me to say no,

So its a big Syd Barrett yes from me.

Lots of people on this site listen to and like tons of artists. If rab is as open-minded as I believe it to be, almost every "somewhat good" artist will get in and it would be retarded. I prefer Jay's approach where it takes 2/3 of the voters to vote yes in order for an artist to be nominated. Personally, I do not believe there should be a limit to how long you have been on this site. That would be illogical.

His music is the only reason anybody who matters (we're not talking 13 year old wiggers) would like him nowadays. That style of hip-hop is long dead from the mainstream charts and the East/West thing has been over for years and years. Sure his death cemented his position as one of the hip-hop greats but if you're going to split that hair then you better be prepared to take on Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Easy E, Kurt Cobain, Mia Zappata, Janis Joplin, 2pac and about 400 others.

His music is why I nominated him because his music stanRAB out independently of his personal life.

His was a technically talented rapper, but he was relaxed, not looking to proove anything and only used complex structures and lyricism when it fit correctly. I completely disagree with "sure some [of the lyrics] are beyond horrible but still", all rappers are hit and miss with their lyrical content because there is just so much of it, and honestly the only time Biggie ever truly "missed the mark" were on some of the more sexually explicit tracks - but even then his ability to entertain and tell stories shone through.

And I chose Gimme the Loot because it's the perfect example of his storytelling lyrics and of the loose-arc that follows both Ready to Die and Life After Death. Fun fact: The "other" rapper in the song is actually Biggie doing a voice.

Vote yes or I will do everything in my power to make your life a living hell.

Just kidding, but seriously Chris I expected better from you :P
