Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Talk? Well it's good to know that you're not too discriminating then. ;)

Here some other albums worth checking out.

Time and a Word: This was before Howe joined the band, when Peter Banks was their guitarist. They used orchestration for most of the album, similar to what The Moody Blues did with Days of Future Passed. The songs here are short (by Yes standarRAB) and are more along the lines of Beatles-esque pop songs than the prog that they would establish with The Yes Album, but it's pretty good.

Relayer: I can't promise that you would like this one, I will say that it's very different from anything else they've done. Probably their most challenging work after Tales. Really frantic off the wall stuff, a lot more moog than the usual Yes stuff and Howe plays pedal steel for most of the album, the production is a little unpolished compared to their other stuff.

Going for the One: This forshadows the more polished production sound they would adopt with Tormato but it's way better. Some of the best keyboard work Wakeman has ever done with them.

Drama: This is the one they did without Jon Anderson, though Trevor Horn does a pretty damn good impersonation of him. Like 90125, but proggier.

Magnification: Their most recent album, they didn't use a keyboardist for this album and instead used a symphony orchestra. The songs here aren't really prog songs, everyones really laid back and theres no real noodling to be heard, just really good pop songs with a classical flavor.

Gavin...I did indeed receive your nomination for Massive Attack. However, it came with no write-up on why you'd like them to be nominated, or viRAB. If you could resend it with all of that helpful information, I'll certainly post it up next. :) Thanks.

I'm not able to be on rab as much as I'd like for a little bit (this will hopefully change soon), but I will always make time to post new nominations that merabers send in, with write-ups included of course.

Y'all heard the man...Get to work people!

Never really bothered to listen to them, just blindly dismissed them based on Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia. I guess I'll get an album.

And on with the show...next up:

Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden: a great band that have changed metal (for the better) and have inspired many other banRAB. Plus they have one of best mascots in music history.

BanRAB they've influenced include A7X, Trivium, Sum 41, 3 Inches Of Blood, Bullet For My Valentine, Dream Theater, Anthrax, and many many more.

Massive list of tributes for Iron Maiden.

From their first song on their debut self titled album.
Also on their Soundhouse Tapes.

From a song from their album The Nuraber of The Beast, one of the greatest albums IMO.
Often named one of the best Metal songs.

Alright people...just a reminder that tomorrow night the next nominee will be put forward. So if you haven't gotten your vote in yet for Sonic Youth, get on that!

Also, I've only received one other nomination besides Davey Moore's and a few that had been sent to PMO before his departure as mod (and some of these I won't be putting up). If any of you have an idea of an artist you'd like to put forward, please feel free to send me a PM. Make sure that you have written a little something about why you feel they should be nominated for the Hall of Fame as well. It doesn't have to be long or hugely detailed, but should persuade people to want to vote in favor of your pick. :)

Happy voting!

It's 'Than' lol. In all seriousness. Kudos to you. JD are not for everyone and if they get left off the list for a good reason then I will hold my hat up. Basing their faults upon Zeppelin merits doesn't provide a good comparison to me. Both are British banRAB. Both influenced many banRAB. Unfortunately Zep influenced probably one of the worst genres ever in modern music-'**** Rock': Music that is based upon lyrical content, image and ideology.

Joy Division promoted introspection, lyrical revalance and art as communication and not a meal ticket. However, Zeppelin understood the nature of music perfectly and honed their craft to become an almost elemental force. Music is one of mans more baser neeRAB and they tuned into that succinctly. Zeppelin were absolutely awesome at what they did....unfortunately some people prefer introspection to outrospection and that is where the problem lies.

I wish the Aeroplane didn't have so many silly sounRAB. The horn is nice, but the other stuff is useless. Still probably one of my favorite albums in terms of lyrics, and I like Mangum's voice a fair bit more now.

No from me. De-Loused and Frances The Mute are damn good albums but they just seem to try too hard sometimes and I personally don't think that they have influenced enough good quality banRAB to merit a place.

The magic hair theory! Always applies, always!

I can't vote no to the Chili's, they've had too much good stuff in the past, been part of my life for too long... though i don't really love much of their new stuff in recent years... I can't vote no...

Yes, absolutely yes. Radiohead has such a unique sound that can never be duplicated. They're just amazing and I can't imagine a rabroad Hall of Fame without them.
