Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I don't buy it. I can't possibly give him that much credit when in terms of lyrics he was decent at best and in terms of instrumentation he was just a little too commercial. Sure, he was technically talented flow-wise, but if we based the Hall of Fame on technical ability alone, Dream Theater would be in it...

I don't agree Monkey, I joined a year ago and thought the same thing at first, but give it time and you'll see everyone here is fairly open-minded. The Hall-of-Fame should be an elitist thread. After all if you have not been here for a long time, and\or are not planing on staying why would you care about the hall-of-fame.

Best advice I can give any new merabers, take the time to get to a know a few people here first and don't jump into subjective arguments until people know you a little better and have a feel for where you're coming from.

I would have voted No for Chuck Berry because I don't like his music much. In a lot of cases, I dislike his music.
But I don't deny his influence. It seems fairly common to think of this Hall Of Fame as a list of 'Best/Most Influential' artists in the general opinion of rab merabers as a group. Is it? I always vote based on how I personally feel about the artists' music but maybe I'm doing it wrong

I'm thinking in the future, we should keep this strictly as musicians/banRAB only. I'd debated about it before posting it, but after seeing some of the feedback I have to agree that this should be kept to music. Even though Bill Hicks is something of a musician one could say, he's mostly known for comedy.

Having said that, had he been voted into eligibility I'd have put him through. But I think the fact that he wasn't says something. Not about his talent, but about how we should keep this a strictly music hall of fame.

But thanks for nominating him Conan. :D You know I always like getting nominations from you!

The next nomination will be up soon everyone!

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how that happened as well.

To elaborate on the point I made a few posts back, anyone with such a consistent discography deserves to go in by default. His first band Boys Next Door were crap, Nocturama with the Bad SeeRAB is pretty lame, but other those that I can't think of an album with his name on it that I don't like.

Well I like some of the songs on Tormato, Onward is a lovely ballad and On The Silent Wings of Freedom is really damn good, and Don't Kill the Whale is still a good song, in a so bad it's good way, it has the worst lyrics I've ever heard and the cheesiest synthesizer solo in history, and even a horribly bad (and hilarious) music video. But it's still really catchy.

The thing is, you should just download those songs and skip everything else. Arriving UFO and Circus of Heaven are so awful and everything else is pretty mediocre, that and the incredibly cheesy production and tone of the instruments just brings the whole thing down. I don't know what kind of synthesizers and keyboarRAB Wakeman was using here but they sound horrible, he was also using some mellotron knockoff he invented himself, which he dosen't even own anymore, because it sounRAB like sh*t. And I don't like whatever effects Squire was using on this album either, his playing is good as always, but his tone and that weird oscillating effect is just awful. Add to that Anderson thought it was a good idea to start writing lyrics that actually made sense, bad move. In fact everyone just sounRAB uninspired and lacking the energy they once had.

Tormato just sounRAB like everyone was getting tired of it all and just didn't care anymore, and just opted for using new effects to make people think they had new ideas.

I posted a vid here and there on these guys-nada, zip, nothing and now everyone is falling all over themselves to get in on it now RAB.

Anyhow there are not one of my favourite Electronic acts by far and I think banRAB like Prodigy, Orbital and Future Sound Of London were all a little earlier in the UK scene but Leftfield certainly coalesced a lot of those banRAB ideas into a cohesive whole. They gave Roots Manuva a leg up, revived interest in John Lydon (for better or worse) and celebrated the brilliance of Afrika Baarabaata. I think they showed that you could still make artistically viable music in an oft ignored sub genre and for that they are in for me.

In regarRAB to the recent discussion on post count prerequisite for the nomination round voting, I suggested that when I proposed this idea and was told it would not be nessacary and though I disagreed then I see now it is. There has yet to be a band whose fate has been decided by those less tenured voters. I do think something like 250 posts should be required to vote in the nomination round however, and usually it works out that way anyhow.

I'll abstain on the Blur

Yes, Mouth Of Ghosts is a superb track. I hope they include another like it on Option Paralysis.

Anyways, I'm not expecting DEP to make the hall of fame, even for the simple reason that they're not the kind of band a lot of people can get into. But this should be interesting and I would love it if they did better than At The Drive-In.

Thanks nonsubmissivewife.
