Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I was going to vote no, but after reading all of the commentary here I will abstain from this nominee, I can't honestly say I would take the time and do a thorough review of Wu-Tang's music, I simply am not into the rap/hip-hop scene period and so I would not be an honest participant in this selection.

Does anyone actually do that? Giving someone a listen because they influenced other music you like is a good way to explore music but if you're still interested after the first listen or two then you're listening because you like it not because it's influential.

I listen to Chuck Berry because I like him. But he belongs in the hall of fame because he was extremely influential.

Blur make it through.

Next up a joint nom from Mirrorball95 and Antonio

Neil Young

Alrite man now listen up, Neil Young most definitely deserves to be up there. I shouldnt really have to explain this one to you though. After influencing pretty much every major rock act for the past 40 years, from his Buffalo Springfield beginnings to his glorious 90s rebirth and his recent epic headlining performance at Glastonbury at the age of 63, I think he deserves to be held up amongst the best artists and lyricists of the past 40 years. I am still to meet someone who doesn't like Neil Young or hasn't at least been influenced in some way by him. I once spoke to a guy who said he only liked Death Metal.... and Neil Young. I nearly fell off my seat, but he said he took influence from the structure of his songs, which was pretty amazing.

On a more personal note, his music has been life changing for me and totally changed my outlook and perception of music. A lot of his lyrics have also affected me in many different ways, whether hes talking about World War II in songs such as 'Western Hero' or love in such immensely beautiful, mindblowing songs such as 'Harvest Moon', you can always relate to them.
At least if Neil Young gets in, I will be able to handle Nickelback's (possible) entry better. After all we do have to keep everyone happy.

-----------------------------------------------------

Now, i'm not exactly the biggest loyalist for Neil Young, but this is truly a man who deserves to be in the rabroad Hall of Fame. with a career spanning almost 50 years, he has influenced countless banRAB and singer songwriters with his personal, down to earth lyrics as well as his distinct voice and painfully strong guitar work, those very traits that influenced a little movement know as "grunge", if you've heard of it

it'd also be a bit of a travesty to let an artist like Nickelback in if not the very person who's almost responsible for the band's very existence.

And what the hell would you have it be? Just because a band is influential doesn't qualify it for the Hall of Fame. It may be a factor, but it's more a major player when what it influenced is more popular in the community (ie, metal). Don't take this vote the wrong way - it just shows that the community isn't really into this type of music, it means no disrespect to their legacy.

10 to 1?

I voted yes but honestly it was barely so...
Whatever, I think I'm just pissed that PiL failed to be nominated.

I guess Nick Cave deserves to be nominated, but honestly I don't think we need him when he have the simular but far superior Bob Dylan.

undecided on this one.

a lot of my favorite artists have cited him as an influence from time to time but i rarely see the need to actually listen to his music. to me he comes off as little more than yet another lingering fart in the winRABwept aberration of dad rock.

we'll see though, i've been able to see whats so great about banRAB with much less to say.

Yeah, whether or not theyre overrated, they deserve to be in without a doubt.

The BenRAB, OK Computer, and Kid A all have their seperate groups of fanboys, and there arent many banRAB that can say they put out TWO albums that well recieved, nevermind three.

Cobain only wishes he could sing like Gary Cherone or play guitar like Nuno Bettencourt.

And let's talk about how much Novoselic sucks, he didn't even do 5 minute slap bass solos, what an insult to great musicianship.

Today is the last day the poll is open, unless the votes change Zeppelin will advance and be voted on my the panel after we get enough Nominees.

Piss me Off...post another nominee if you have one, otherwise I'll get another one ready. Or let Jack do Floyd or Urban the Clash or something like that. Hell better yet you do one.
