Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I voted "No" for Echo & the Bunnymen because there are other artists more deserving that haven't been inducted into the "Music Banter Hall Of Fame".
 
Yeah, alot of times when talking to people about music Ill argue that The Velvet Underground are more influential than the Beatles. Definately a yes vote. Even if the departure of John Cale made them less sonically challenging, Lou Reed is still an amazing songwriter, and it shows on 'The Velvet Underground', 'VU', and 'Loaded'.
 
SounRAB like you have given this some thought JJJ, I agree with everything you posted, especially the final vote allowing active participants to contribute right through the process. I would make one suggestion though,,,anyone 49 or over gets to nominate any band they like, regardless of nuraber of posts, that gives me a free pass and I promise not to abuse the privilege.:laughing:(We could call it the Grandfather Rule.:))
 
I definitely agree that its more than likely that Damon Albarnn of Blur was as big an a$ehole as the Gallaghers... he was just different in his a$$hole - ness, Albarn came across as arrogant, superior, and the Gallaghers just crass potty mouths... different styles altogether... all the Britpop mob were basicallly a damn good soap opera...
 
Yes Urban is actually right on about everything about that whole britpop battle thing. But he's totally wrong about The Great Escape. Parklife was a look and celebration of british working class culture, and Great Escape is the other side of the story, it focuses on Middle Class british life. It's not a great as the Parklife but it's far from awful.

I don't know, am I missing something here? Maybe I'm just put off by the fascistic comments that people who don't vote "yes" for Zeppelin are ignorant. If the only goal is to honor influential musicians, there really doesn't need to be a poll at all.

WRONG. They're still an incredibly influencial band. And calling them insignificant is about the most retarded thing I've ever heard, even the most avid Yes haters would call bullsh*t on that.

They are considered by many to be the defining band of their genre, which was by no means insignificant when it was one of the the dominate genres of rock music in the early 70s, as brief as that was, progressive rock is not insignificant and that is something even prog haters should accept, progressive rock is f*cking huge and people underestimate how popular it is today, and how much of an influence it's had on modern music both directly and indirectly.
 
I'm going to have to say no. They may have been influential in their genre, but me and many others haven't even heard of them before this. They're not really well known or liked around here, and for that, the answer is no. Sorry. :(

It says something about the quality of the music that i'd still vote yes for them despite the fact this band seem to be a magnet for morons , idiots & fanboys.
