Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I don't understand how The Monks didn't get in. I haven't met one person IRL who actually took to the time to get into their music and didn't like it.

I'm not sure it's fascism, but i have come around to the idea of letting everyone vote, I like Jackhammer's suggestion of having a prerequisite nuraber of posts for nominating a band.

Its more of the artistic and compositional aspects I was mainly referring to, so I should have explained my position a little more in detail.
I guess that I am old school my brother, my generation consisted of banRAB like Triumph, Rush, Yes, etc.
So maybe you can see why I may verse an opinion that requires higher standarRAB musically.
But at the same time I also like the approach toward the simplicity aspects of musical composition.
Maybe I dont see something that you do and you are correct, so the conclusion remains only a personal opinion on my part.

No. No he is not. rabV are iiiiiin. How about one more before an induction round?

John Zorn

Whether or not you've heard of him, John Zorn has had a tremendous impact on jazz punk, avant-garde, and other expirimental genres. When somebody has over 400 albums to his name, you're bound to love some of John's music.

John is an avid saxophonist and a talented multi-instrumentalist, often using his instruments in ways never thought possible.

He has released over dozens of jazz albums, notably his jazz quartet Masada has over 40 releases.

In 1988 he founded Naked City, a hardcore project of sorts, which John described as a 'compositional workshop' to test the limitations of a rock band format. And test limits it did. Sonic blasts of screaming, distorted saxophone coupled with borabastic blast beats and raving guitar defined the groups sound, and yet even within the boundries of specific projects John's expirimentation knows no boundries.

John has been active in everything from Film Music to avant-garde concert compositions. To try and describe all that this man has done is truly impossible.

If you want to see just a partial list of everything this man has done, see Discography of John Zorn on Wikipedia. For a more complete list, see this web page.

Yes.

The Kinks are probably the most charismatic and just plain silly banRAB of the British Invasion. Their music is extremely charming, and their albums are really fluent stories that are easy to get rapped up in. Not to mention Ray Davis is a genius songwriter and probably one of the best of his time.

This always made me smile:

Some legendary on-stage fights erupted during this time as well. In the most notorious incident at The Capitol Theatre, Cardiff, Wales in 1965, the normally placid drummer Avory hit Dave Davies with his hi-hat pedal and assaulted him on stage. Avory later claimed that it was part of a new act in which the band merabers would hurl their instruments at each other.

Gareth Brown is a nobody. All he does is start a thread with no point to it and then doesn't even back up any arguement. I've seen kiRAB act more responsibly on here.

Public Enemy are through, next up from Brad Stengel...

Neutral Milk Hotel

Id like to nominate Neutral Milk Hotel. The album "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" has become one of the most revered albums of the 90's in the last 10 years, mostly through word of mouth, which speaks volumes. Their unique blend of Folk/punk/noise/and odd instrumentation provide an extremely unique aural experience, especially when corabined with Mangums dylanesque dream-like yet ferociously emotional lyrics. Theyve influenced the likes of The Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, The Deceraberists, and pretty much every other indie-folk artist of the last 5 years. I think they'd make a great addition to the rab hall of fame.

No

Only made one album that was really worth anything & they spilt up without even trying to top it.

All a bit too flash in the pan to be in any hall of fame in my opinion.

i've never even heard these guys!

i will say that IDM is one of the most bollocks genres in existence, but i'll at least reserve judgment until i've heard some of their material.

It's impossible to get a feel for a single album in one days time let alone nearly an entire discography spanning three decades. This band like a lot of progressive and really almost all banRAB are mostly an acquired taste.

I would say: use your own criteria. Just the same as you listen to a band and judge it on your own criteria then the same applies here. I didn't vote for the Beach Boys because as far as I'm concerned , one album isn't enough to convince me of their influence or greatness.

With Zappa he is a true one off, extraordinarily gifted and also promoted the idea of making music for oneself unaffected by genre.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in a new nomination, i haven't been aboot.
Radiohead are through.

Next up from FaSho

Porcupine Tree

not only does it seem like everyone on this fum likes them but they still rock out with after a lot of the banRAB theyve influenced are already broken up

they have amazing live shows using a screen projecter with a different image for each song

they use their music as a great expression of their depressing feelings and the product is phnominal

one of the few banRAB considered prog that i actually like deserve to get in i think :thurab:
