Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

My first cassettes given to me by my father were the red and blue compilation albums which he bought in the early- mid 70's. I still own them. They are my first memories of music and although their first couple of albums are very much of the time, albums such as 'Rubber Soul', 'Revolver' and 'Abbey Road' are more than good enough to ensure their place even if I don't listen to them as much as I used to.

i'm in the process of reassessment of his works and so far along i've been impressed. the depth of his discography is pretty extensive and on that basis he certainly deserves a spot in the rab hall of fame.

I know they are probably really good (based on what everyone says), and someone who's name eludes me uploaded their first album. I probably would vote yes, but I won't vote at all because I haven't heard any.

"We're musical primitives."
-John Cale

Undoubtedly one of the most influential banRAB ever , second only to maybe the Beatles. The Velvet Underground eschewed conventional melodies and pop style lyrics in favor of dour, rigidly constructed songs about sadomasochism, sexual deviance, drugs, despair and the harsh reality of urban life on the fringes. Offbeat, daring, challenging, provocative, sometimes outrageous, always different, during wildly experimental and progressive second half of the 60’s The Velvet Underground was the avant-rock outfit of excellence. Although never commercially successful, there is that famous line from Brian Eno that only a few thousand people bought their first album and almost every single one of them would start a band. The Velvets influence on music can be traced everywhere from David Bowie to Sonic Youth.

I think I'd be a good idea to include him in the Hall of Fame. Not only is he discussed all the time here, but I think comedians in general should have a fair shot at this.

1. Because they frequently tour with musicians, and have become as much a part of the 'concert culture' as music acts.

2. They are artists just like musicians with a spoken form of expression.

3. They share the same realm as musicians. Audio is the most common form of release for them - they have albums that can be purchased along side any music CD.

4. They can be very influential to music. The example with Hicks (as brought out) is Tool.

Some might disagree and things like "this is MUSICbanter dewd", but I'd like to point out that what we all are at heart is audiofreaks and comedy is another form of it... kind of like Television is to Cinema. We keep out DVRAB of South Park or Family Guy right next to our DVRAB of The Hangover and The Godfather don't we? Why not let comedians into our HOF? At the very least it's something different that we've never done before.

I only have Freak out! and Apostrophe, and it's already a f*ck yes from me. It hasn't taken much for me to realize that this guy is amazing. What other essential albums should I get?

He's by no means my favorite hip-hop artist, but his flow and lyrics definatley made him one of the most talented mainstream rappers of all time. And his 'legacy' is what keeps his era of rap alive today, instead of being completley smothered by this new 'ringtone rap' garbage.

Well they got me into a whole realm of new music I'd have probably never touched if it weren't for hearing their stuff.... so I guess on those grounRAB, I have a very justified yes vote!
