Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Regardless of one's feelings on a band, I don't think the quantity of their output should be a factor. Some of the best banRAB hvae only released a handful of albums. If the VU had broken up after their first album, they'd still be considered one of the best banRAB of the 60's, and rightfully so.

As an example, in the end, the only Stones albums that I care about are Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed. My thoughts on the band wouldn't really be changed if those were the only albums they made.

If that argument isn't enough to move him to be nominated, I dunno what is! Brilliant piece about Mr. Marley. There is absolutely nothing that could be added to that!

I second every notrion from the above post.

Voted "yes" for Nickleback. For a band to have achieved as high a level of fame as they apparently have without me having ever knowingly heard one of their songs is really quite an accomplishment. I think they deserve some kind of recognition for that.

I voted no because I've never gotten into them, even after trying. I do enjoy some songs like Run Through the Jungle but not enough of a fan to vote them into the HoF.

Sorry Conan...yours is next week. Don't despair!

Mission of Burma

Carving out a lanRABcape of blistering post-punk, Mission of Burma was a four-piece band from Boston who dissolved long before they could break headwind as anything other than some small-time indie act with a thirst to prove their worth. The reality of the matter is they barely were a band; only four short years represented their initial formation (Roger Miller, Peter Prescott, Clint Conley & Martin Swope) from their dissolution due to Miller

Isn't Anything is still better than 50% of everything I have ever heard even though it sounRAB like it was recorded in a basement on a single mic. In for sure. If an album can still sound superlative 20 years after I first heard it then there is no compunction here at all.

YES I think it's better than 'loveless'. Sue me.

I would speculate that the rab community at large doesn't really fit comfortably within the Neil Young demographic, but his work with Crazy Horse, in my opinion, would be a lot more accessible and interesting to many of the posters on here than his milder solo albums.

John Bonham
Jimmy Page
John Paul Jones
Robert Plant

Four pretty talented musicians who together created a signature sound that stood apart from any other band back in the 70's when they were the most famous band in the world. Their body of work is amazing as well, how many other banRAB put out so many great albums/songs that people still talk about 30+ years later? Truly deserving of the rab Hall of Fame, good choice JJJ.:thurab:

I cant think of a way to really improve this at hand but I agree that so far the criteria has proven itself to be somewhat inconsistent. So far weve had merabers:

1)Voting yes based purely on influence, even if they dont like the artist up for nomination.

2) Voting no even though they do like the artist up for nomination because they think they werent influential enough .

3)Voting either way even though they don't know anything about the artist.

I'm just basing mine on my own personal music collection. If I like the artist I vote yes, if I don't I vote no. Regardless of how much of an influence this artist may have been. In this case I have a Chuck Berry greatest hits CD and thats it so I'm refraining from voting either way because I don't feel I know enough to even contribute towarRAB this nomination. Surely thats better left up to merabers of this board who know enough to either credit or discredit the man.

Maybe taking influence into account in the future is a good idea, I dont know, I'm acknowledging that someone may be able to present a case to me about that but if were voting based mainly on how influential artists are then surely we could just write this Hall of Fame up now without even throwing it open to the boarRAB?

Well see that's the thing, I don't know what people like, I personally hate the banRAB too but I figured they would just see the big picture.

Eh, just like how people misuse the word g@y, we know they don't actually mean homosexual just like we know they aren't actually being like Mussolini. I think he just meant to say 'controlling', that's all.
