Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I just did, of the people who posted 2 Americans said they voted no (anticipation & Zorabie Fetish) And one half Brit did (Me).

And mine had nothing to do with where they were from.

BanRAB can be influential without having that influence being directly related to sound. Radiohead and Tom Waits, for example, have influenced a nuraber of musician's sound but also they are sort of an inspiration for musician's to take more risks, and an influence to any band that has had a lot of changes in their sound throughout their discography. To say that Tom Waits and Radiohead haven't influenced a lot of musicians is crazy talk.

I'm gonna have to be the odd man out here, as I voted no to the Wu. It's easy to put out good albums when you have 10+ separate artists contributing to it. Separately, most of the Clan's artists are good, but they lack unity and cohesion as a group IMHO. I'm in no way belittling them, but I wouldn't give a HOF nod to a group which consists of little more than 5 albums of collaborations by separate artists.

I gotta go with Urban on this one, he's influenced a lot of great talents. Zappa, Henry Cow, Can, Tom Waits, The Residents, Public Image Ltd, Wire, Sonic Youth, White Stripes, Primus, dEUS, PJ Harvey. But generally there's not really much out there influenced by Beefheart that I don't actually prefer to Beefheart.

Trout Mask Replica is kickass and all, but I don't know about it being a stroke of genius. You could find any group of bluesmen, get them drunk out of their asses and they would probably produce something of a similar result. What I'm basically saying is I don't think simply deconstructing something (in this case, the blues) is genius in itself, I was never a big fan of the Dada movement.

I still haven't voted yet, really undecided on this one. He simply influenced a lot of artists I like and he's put out some stuff I like but a lot of stuff I generally don't care for. So I don't know if he deserves my vote or not, if I were to vote for everyone I just plain "like" I would be voting for everyone.

I love big black their pretty sick, although i am too young to really see much of their influences they do seem ahead of their time ( although i see an influence on nirvana especially with songs like heartbreak on "The Hammer Party" (Thank god for megaupload best source for music besides torrents) ) anyways its a Yes for me :)

I think Pearl Jam is a good example of this, Eddie's moaning and groaning sounRAB good with the music, I can't understand a ****ing word he is saying, but it doesn't matter, sounRAB good.
