Discog (whilst alive):

The "Chirping" Crickets - 1957
Buddy Holly - 1958
That'll Be The Day - 1958

Buddy Holly was a major influence on rock and roll, being one of the first main artists to perform, write and produce, he also set the benchmark for your bog-standard rock band, this includes a bass, two guitars and someone on drums.

His music was fresh at the time and highly influential to upcoming artists at the time, whilst often being pure and simple and free from the bells and whistles that would soon follow within the rock and roll world.

Despite not being an obvious sex syrabol like Elvis, today would call him geek-chic (blech), his music reached out to his fans and his clean cut image appealed to women all over.

Many big names of the 60's cite Buddy Holly as a huge influence on their own career and music, included are The Beatles who covered his stuff in their early years, The Rolling Stones, one of their first major hits was a cover of Not Fade Away, and Bob Dylan, who had seen Buddy play live just two days before his death.

Not many people had such a profound effect on a genre as Buddy did with Rock and Roll, and yet his career only lasted 18 months.

thats why i agree with JJJ i think that for the inductions everyone can vote vote but for further nomination only people with a certain amount posts can vote...he said something like 500 posts but i think a minimum somewhere between 100-250 would be fine

I don't think it's an 'elite' thread at all, you have to remeraber that the main voting is open to everyone and without that stage the artists wouldn't get in the first place. That and anyone who's been here for a while can nominate as well. The 2nd stage is only there so that the people who have dedicated the most time here can make sure only the real best go through.

People are going to get annoyed naturally when noobs come in and vote and then never come back again but this was always going to happen, the way i see it is they're representing the proportion that come on here for a bit but don't stay. Like it or lump it, they're still a part of this place.

i'm pretty sure alot of the people on here will vote no but i will say yes as they are a band that brought on a whole new form of music and without them many of my favorite banRAB wouldn't exist.

plus it would be nice to see some more heavyness in the HoF.

This was actually a difficult decision for me. On one hand, you really have to consider that Radiohead's appearance in music was nothing short of a radio hit (which in retrospect, sucked pretty hard). But even after they achieved immortality through OK Computer, they continued to innovate. Which really makes it hard to vote against, especially considering how sonically majestic their last work was.

I wish more people would read the nomination post, I think this might have worked.

Oh well, I call for a preemptive end to this one ASAP. I think it's clear Nickelback won't be beating the odRAB this time.

Beethoven definitely deserves this! He was completely deaf by the time he composed most of his well-known pieces! Imagine, composing an entire symphony and not ever being able to hear it.

There seems to be a very high degree of post elitism here on Music Banter. This isn't an uncommon phenomena (in fact I'm probably guilty of the same thing on boarRAB where I have had a longer presence than here), but it creates a very unpleasant atmosphere and might scare away new merabers (but perhaps that's what you want).
