Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

nah, of course it was meant to be funny. you can hear Beefheart laugh at the beginning of Hair Pie: Bake 2 as well as after the Rocket Morton comment "i run on beans". and it's not like he was devoid of a sense of humor either (you saw that Ten Commandments thing i posted earlier, right?). there are parts of it too which focus on serious subject matter, particularly Dachau Blues.

Moonlight in Vermont is absolutely awesome in every way, though.

Have you heard their early stuff? Quite a lot different to what they are about now. After touring and working with Opeth, mainman Steven Wilson admitted to taking a heavier direction and their output from this time ('99 onwarRAB) does have it's fair share of banality. Earlier albums like Voyage 34 and Up the Downstair may float your boat a little more.

That sound like you should be a critic for the NME or Mojo or some other music rag.

Even though I don't brag that Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitarist that ever lived, (I feel I might present myself as being bias) only because there's some unsung guitar player whose talent deserve the same amount of attention. I still find what he did extremely ingenious for his time period. Mastering the guitar doesn't come easy. He hone his skills playing with R&B banRAB on the Chitlin circuit. Developing the necessary skills to play guitar in one genre only later to use them in another only to reinventing it. His style is like an amalgamation of everything heard and learn but played the guitar in his own form of personal expression in such a way that made it uniquely his own.

Plus he was also a great song writer that wrote some of the moving songs in Rock, I think he done enough artisticly to overlook any so-called guitar wankery.

But seriously. The way newcomers drop by and vote, the turnouts for these are pretty unpredictable. It's a good thing we're not just letting anyone nominate an artist, because Say Anything would probably make it into the hall of fame with ease.

So how many votes is enough again? And are we sure it's enough? The reason all the other artists have got in so quickly is because we considered 20 something the official nuraber and EVERYBODY with as much as 12 posts enRAB up voting, and so an induction is made before a lot of the regulars even voted, and I consider their opinions more valuable.

Just do your own criteria for voting , it's hardly f*cking rocket science.

There are plenty of banRAB I like that I wouldn't put in a hall of fame.

No. I think he was more influential in his approach to guitar phrasing with riRAB etc but although I don't mind his music I raely listen to him and it seems many don't on here either.

Blegh.

I loathe Pollock.

I do know that, and I consider Dachau Blues to be one of the worst songs on the album.

But I guess you have a point and it would be a relief to know that TMR wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It seems that a lot of people do take it seriously.

Thing is, I didn't know if Beefheart was a great surreal humorist or if he was just batsh*t insane.

I tend to vote more based on recognition on rab then actual talent, so in this case it would be a no. I will abstain for a bit though and re-evaluate their music before deciding. It's just hard for me to say yes to a band, no matter how much I like them, that I don't feel the majority of rab recognize.
