Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

... What more do you want from a band lol.

If I had to pick one album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would probably be ITAOTS. Simply perfect. I don't care how hipster it is to like it, Aeroplane is a fantastic album and that alone puts it ahead of half of the inductees that are already in. Their other stuff is fantastic as well. Big yes from me.

Yes from me, "Songs About ****ing" is not only a great album, but I hear echoes of it in ALOT of music since. I'd say industrial music in general owes Big Black as much as it does Killing Joke.

Alright, we doin' this!

Next one is nominated by sleepy jack

Radiohead

Okay yes they're overrated, yes their fans don't shut up about them, yes every time they so much as shit (on EMI inrainbows

I find the Alicia Keys reference on that album funny.

Bob Dylan has a thing for women of the darker complexion. Listen to Spanish Harlem Incident if ye doubt my claim!

Alot of times I don't have enough interest or knowledge in the banRAB put up here to justify choosing. I read the thread, but usually just sit back and leave it to other merabers who I know are much more knowledgeable, and will make good cases. In DEP's case though, I have to jump in and offer a yes(!) vote.

Amazing band that is constantly evolving and staying fresh from album to album. Calculating Infinity is indeed legendary and easily one of the best math rock albums ever released. As they've pushed forward over the years, they've evolved. Evolving sound is usually a scary term for fans, but so far Dillinger always has it under control and released nothing but top-notch material. They never fail to please, whether you're seeing them live or just listening to the album.

Not a chance from me. I can't stand them and how can that be hall of fame material? It's just one of those albums that got hyped for the wrong reasons. Hype should mean it's good. I have listened to two of theirs and cannot remeraber a single thing from them. That and the fact that I cannot quite grasp what they have contributed to music means it's a big fat no.

I can't blame you for not liking them, you would have shocked the hell out of me if you did.

I can understand the main criticism of Porcupine Tree, while I don't consider them to be an imitation of anybody, their sound isn't too "unique". But I don't think that takes away from the quality of their music in any way. At least in my opinion.

I can't say how important a band PT will be in the future, or the impact they will have on this so called prog revival. PT have gotten pretty popular and are getting younger people interested in prog rock, so I'm very happy about that.

But I think what we really need is a band that can completely reinvent the genre of prog. The Mars Volta have come closer to this than anyone else, but everyone hates them, hipsters and proggies alike. Tis a shame because I think they're great, but it's to be expected when you mix two completely different styles like prog and punk together. The funny thing with prog fans is, they praise progressive rock for how revolutionary and innovative it was at it's conception, but today you won't even be considered prog if you're too innovative.

PT aren't innovative, they're just good, and they're just original enough, so they keep prog fans happy. Though I must admit I'm a bit suprised by how well recieved they are by prog fans because they usually whine like bitches whenever a band blenRAB prog with pop, as Porcupine Tree does. But I think people are starting to miss the point of what prog actually is. Prog was very innovative in the early 70s, but then everything became rather cliche after that and by 80s until now any "true" prog band is expected to not really do anything different from the prog banRAB of the 70s, tis a shame.

When The Beach did not get nominated I delved bit further into the why's and wherefores as to why artists were or were not selected and come to the conclusion that this is just an exercise in popularity. Thats OK but to me personally it just means that it is all a bit meaningless.

I am unwilling to extract heaRAB out of the asses of those who think that WTC is gangsta rap.

I don't really appreciate the veiled references to shitty 70s rock like the Eagles, but Wu-Tang is definitely one of the biggest pioneers of hip-hop (alongside N.W.A and The Beastie Boys). One of the biggest and best and one of my favorites.

Hell yes.

^Cobe Kai is a pretty good example.

Also, I plan on voting, but I also don't know **** about them. So I'll download.

EDIT: 24 fecking albums? What to start with? Pet SounRAB?

After giving it some careful consideration, I've decided to give rap music another chance. I guess I'll look at it the same way I look at rock music: there's plenty of mainstream ****, but then there's plenty of great underground stuff. So we'll see if I will end up liking rap... I'll need pointers though, as I won't have a clue where to begin...

I know MSP aren't a britpop band but britpop was a contributor to their success was it not? That's when a lot of those kinda banRAB were breaking out and britpop at least deserves some of that credit. But I never mentioned MSP either, I really liked The Holy Bible, I'm just talking about Wire.

Somebody neeRAB to take the blame for inspiring this sh*tstain to pursue a solo music career and no punishment no matter how brutal will ever seem fitting enough.

But whatever, you know more about this scene than I do, you lived it. And yeah, I guess it's a bit unfair to assume Noel, Damon, Graham, Bernard or Jarvis could have even anticipated something like this.

But hey, whenever horrible tragedies like this happens, somebody's gotta take the blame.

I'd say the Monks have the biggest influence on 60's revivalist banRAB like the Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Lips. Definite YES for me.
