Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I'm still wondering why mediocre alternative banRAB like Tool are being considered for the Hall of Fame when black performers like Bob Marley and James Brown have never been nominated. Music Banter merabers also have a poor track record in nominating female merabers to the Hall of Fame. Where's Patti Smith, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders, PJ Harvey or Joni Mitchell?

As much as I appreciate My Bloody Valentine and John Zorn, I'm not sure that Bob Marley should have been bumped for their entry. My Bloody Valentine made a total of three albums over six years, one of which was exceptional. If you're going to select a short lived but influential guitar band make it Mission of Burma. MoB guitarist Roger Miller was experimenting with white noise and sonic lanRABcapping five years before Kevin Shield came along and Roger did it with more passion and finesse than Kevin.

I voted no on Tool and I'll continue to vote no on every college radio alternative band until there is a better cultural balance of music in the Hall of Fame. I apologize for the rant but this whole Tool thing really hit a nerve for me.

They already lost, sorry Boo Boo it's Wu-Tangs turn.

And I would say this is a yes for sure. I look at the banRAB already nominated Beatles, Zeppelin, JD, KC, Elliott Smith we have a wide range of genres but no Hip-Hop and there is little doubt in my mind that Wu-Tang best represents this sites taste in rap.

I disagree with Urban's comparison to late 60's super groups however, (I'll take NWA in that category) they are more like the Eagles of Rap, (hear me out) a lot of individually talented merabers of a large group from the second generation of an emerging musical genre, many of which would go on to have excellent solo careers.

Either way a for sure Affirmative from me. Even though they are not a top 10 rap favorite of mine. Kudos to Les Paul for a gutsy nomination post and this one is for you rab.

That's exactly what I am unclear on. Does he not like him because he doesn't have a message or does he think he could like him because his music has a message...?

Nil Recurring EP is by far their most solid release. Steven Wilson is certainly an imaginative artist and will be respected in years to come for reviving structured progressive music. (He's a perfectionist, btw).

Same would have to go with Yes votes so as not to be biased. But I don't think there is a way to enforce something like that without constant thread monitoring. Could be wrong though.

Closing Time is one of the better debut albums I've heard. It is stylistically different from his later albums, including those just three or four years later. But I wouldn't consider it a poor album; he exposes an emotional side which he never fully returned to in later years.

If you want to get a full measure of the man listen to his albums born during transitional perioRAB-- Blue Valentine, Swordfishtrorabones, Bone Machine, etc.

Actually they are quite popular here in the U.S. Not much radio airplay, but most people I meet have heard of them.

I just don't think their music is Hall of Fame worthy... the lyrics (which are a big factor for me) just fall short of what I'd like. If they'd tone down and bit and work on the lyrics more It'd be a Yes from me.
