Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

I'm voting yes on G 'n' R. Though they had the misfortune of hitting their peak pretty much just in time for their entire style of music to become horribly uncool, they wrote some great music and in my opinion released two really great albums.

Edit: One more point I want to add is that I think the reason I like them so much is the degree to which, at their best, they managed to transcend their genre.

My original plan (and the one I still like) calls for a 2\3rRAB vote from the panel merabers to get in.

My proposal, and this is or at least should be subject to discussion, was to have merabers with 1 year experience and 1,000 posts eligible to vote. (I've since thought maybe 1,500 or 2,000 posts or two years)

I think votes should be public, made in the form of a post and cite reasons why or why not. Also those voting should be extra careful to consider their own feelings along with those of the rab community when voting.

For example if a band was nominated by a vote of something like 25-2 it would be unfair for anyone to vote that band down come the induction threaRAB without making a very strong case.

No one is ever required to vote and you can vote yes or no on as many banRAB as you like.

A induction post could look like this.

Band A: Yes, because.....

Band B: No, because

Band C: Neutral

Band D: Yes, because

etc.

These are my thoughts on the issue. Double X makes a good point and that's my solution.

Everybody's talking 'bout the stormy weather
And what's a man do to but work out whether it's true?
Looking for a man with a focus and a temper
Who can open up a map and see between one and two

There's real poetry in the first song, Teenage Riot.

I haven't really seen any elitism in regarRAB to Radiohead. I know their thread here is one of the most popular ones but there's still quite a few that don't like them and that's fine, they ain't everyones cup of tea.

All is forgiven anyway :D I really don't mind what way you vote as long as its nicely explained.

They're doomed. :(

But seriously, you should skip those two, get Close to the Edge and Relayer instead, but if you've already heard them, get Going for the One and Drama. Tales is a fave of mine but I'm pretty iffy about actually recommending it to anyone.

Anything post 90125/pre The Ladder should be avoided at all costs.

I don't think they're half as good as they seem to think they are.

The first album was good but everything I have heard from them since is a long drawn out more boring version of that.

It's almost like they threw everything into their debut album and had nothing left over for the rest.

No from me.

No, Wu-Tang is not gangsta rap, nor have they ever been. Their three collective albums don't express the same mentality as Fuck Tha Police or pretty much anything NWA did. They came during a different era when rap music had to be revitalized and rebooted (since it really was the cheesy stuff that made the top 40). Regardless of the genre, they made some of the greatest solo and group rap albums, and I can't imagine any hip-hop act making the hall of fame if WTC doesn't.

I'm going for no too simply because I never really listened to them much.

They had an impact i'll give them that but it nothing substantial became of it. I don't see them spawning many great banRAB. Their legacy was basically giving major label contracts to a bunch of past it 80s indie banRAB and hundreRAB of no mark 90s banRAB and little else.

They changed the face of popular mainsteam music but then so did Motley Crue in 1982, doesn't mean it was for the better though.

That's not true. So far the only person we've voted in I feel dosen't really deserve it is Elliott Smith.

And of those that got rejected, I think Yes (and maybe Public Image Ltd) were the only ones that should have been inducted.

Objectivity doesn't mean only voting for the most popular artists. While I think Beatles, Zep, Floyd and all those deserve to be inducted, I also think more obscure artists are also worthy of induction if they have the impact and influence.
