Music Banter Hall Of Fame: Nominations Thread

Let me try and use an example. Nick Drake certainly had fans in his time but it took many many years after his death to achieve the revered status he has today with many people. I think the same will happen with Smith. Of course he has fans now but as for a hall of fame I think it's not quite his time yet.

I never said I wasn't gonna get nitpicky. :)

What are you talking about? Have you ever heard Jon Anderson talk? That's the way his voice sounRAB.

Hmmm im afraid i have to say no on this one. I don't think they're been around long enough for Hall Of Fame status. Even though they've released a string of great albums so far i think they still need to prove themselves a bit more. They're not legenRAB just yet.

No, not a post count limit, cos some people with high post counts still do it.

I don't think any 'no' vote should be counted if it doesnt have an explanation and that doesn't have to be any more eloquent than 'i think they're sh*t' as that is a valid reason.

**** yeah. Loveless is one of my favourite albums from the 90s.

Saw them live a week ago, ****ing spectacular, the loudest concert ever. Your body trerabled for hours afterwarRAB.

Controversial, maybe, but here goes another one! We'll see how it goes...

Bill Hicks

Bill Hicks was an American satirist, stand-up comedian and musician. He was originally from Texas, but would later live in and perform New York City and LA respectively.

His stand-up comedy, often described as "dark poetry", was both nihilistic and bleak - but it was also hillarious. He would touch on controversial topics such as abortion, flag burning, drug use, and American Politics. He was a frequent critic of many aspects of standard social behavior. Some of his routines have been described as "dissertations with jokes thrown in", with Hicks himself jokenly describing himself as "Chomsky with dick jokes."

Hicks died of cancer in 1994 at the age of 32.

Although not strictly a musician, his works are can be emotionally pulling - his humour is undeniable, but his negativity, increasing dark material and self-deprecation can pull you back and forth - making you laugh and loathe at the same time. This is done both through his material and (on his later albums) music.

When he found out he was dying, he recorded music to two of his unreleased albums. Sometimes the music was merely backing the material, but other times it took center stage, with entire tracks on the album dedicated to the music. Standouts for me have always been She's Got A Broken Heart and The Wizard Has Landed from Arizona Bay and Rant in E Minor respectively.

I debated for a while when I was writing this nomination whether or not to include videos of his work. I decided I would leave that up to other Hicks fans, as I believe the only way you can really experience the hillarity, the tragedy, and the genius of Bill Hicks is to listen to his albums.

Yeah Thurston has the ultimate hipster blank stare, with the classic Wayfarer sunglasses as well.

It's the picture on the inside of the little booklet you get in a CD when you buy Daydream Nation. I'm glad I found it online, because it took me a while to find it.

No disrespect to Brad Stengel who I normally agree with a lot of the time but putting them in would show this forum to be full of sheep who have no imagination whatsoever.

Can't you even find your own obscure mid 90s indie band to get excited about? there are ****ing thousanRAB of them.

Thats a no by the way.

I'm sorry but they were much more important musically...They weren't popular enough to be socially important. I'm not sure you understand their huge musical impact.
