Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 4

Capt. Beefheart -Yes, can't really say anything that hasn't been said before

Nick Cave-N/V haven't heard enough for a good opinion of him

Nirvana-Despite my inclinations with this band, i'm going to say Yes. alot of the influence and change in the music industry came as a result of them. plus their break up gave Dave Grohl the push he needed to start one of my favorite banRAB, the Foo Fighters.

Blur-N/V haven't heard enough for a good opinion of them

Neil Young-Yes, I nominated him for God sakes

My Bloody Valentine-N/V haven't heard enough for a good opinion of them

John Zorn-Listen to the first Naked City album and you'll see why i'm voting Yes.

Capt. Beefheart
Yes. Not only a massively influential figure on the avante-garde but has heaps of brilliant albums to his name.

Nick Cave
Yes. I love guy. Has a mind-bogglingly consistent discography too.

Nirvana
No. I'm not a fan at all these days (that said, I never really have been).

Blur
Yes. 3 or 4 of their albums I'd call favourites of mine.

Neil Young
Abstain. Haven't heard enough of him.

My Bloody Valentine
Abstain. Don't care enough either way.

John Zorn
Abstain. See above.

I was talking about Think Tank when I said "worst album by a distance." 13 was more similar to Blur, but starting to change a bit in sound and the song quality began to decline. I don't think 13 was "crap." Just a bit worse than their previous albums, which I consider listenable but boring.

Think Tank was very different and much worse.

What I have so far

Captain Beefheart 10/12
Nick Cave 8/12
Nirvana 13/18
Blur 7/13
Neil Young 5/9
rabV 7/8
John Zorn 4/5

note that these are only what I have gathered and could be completely wrong or made up

Capt. Beefheart Tricky......very tricky, I have so much respect for him, but so much disappointment, ABSTAIN

Nick Cave YES, I love the way this man tells a story

Nirvana No, its not snobbery, I used to like Nirvana, Nevermind is marvellous, but Im struggling to get over certain things which surround this band, a NO I'm afraid.

Blur The first album I ever bought was Parklife, I quickly moved onto Oasis, but looking back now, as a Mancunian I am slightly ashamed to say that Im starting to think Blur were the more talented.... and have written music which is easily accesible and will be easily revisited by later generations. Therefore a YES for the footprint they have made.

Neil Young Part of me wants to say yes, after all there was nothing wrong with The Buffalo Springfield or CSN&Y or for that matter some of his solo stuff, but like Beefheart I just feel there are too many patches, but I will never say no to the man, so ABSTAIN.

My Bloody Valentine You dont want to know what I think, a NO from me.

John Zorn After being off here for a couple of weeks, I am shocked this guy has got to this stage, especially after The Monks fiasco, this Hall neeRAB a breakthrough like the induction of this guy, a YES from me.

Capt. Beefheart
Yes because he's one of the best lyricists of all time, one of my favorite songwriters , and one of my favorite artists.
Nick Cave
N/V. Frankly he bores me but that really a reason to say no as I don't have a wide scope on his music.
Nirvana
No because they really weren't anything special. *hides*
Blur
No. Fun but exaggerated by fans to the exetreme.
Neil Young
N/V
My Bloody Valentine
N/V. I like them but see Nick Cave.
John Zorn
N/V

To be honest, I can't be arsed with arguing in favour of Blur. I've gotten used to people ignoring them and calling them rubbish over the years, there's no point trying to defend them.

Let's agree to disagree on this one.

For now I'll just vote yes for Nick Cave, I'm not the biggest fan and have only really scratched his dicography but the albums I do have I love. Apart from the Birthday Party album which I deleted, although I felt like it had a very strong influence on Snowman's latest so I still feel good about it.

Plus having read a few interviews he seems like a really cool guy. I'm going to download some other stuff by the other contenders and will check back in. First up; Loveless.

Edit: Could someone help me out with that, the copy I just got is filled with skipping tracks.

Nirvana - Yes, a gateway to punk rock and such, brought alternative rock to the mainstream. They also have that who gives a sh1t attitude that's so funny and rebellious, but not for the sakeof being rebellious.

Blur - No. Good band and all, but not really hall of fame material, just don't think they did anything to revolutionary or different.

Hi,

I am Newbie here and Nirvana for me is a soul band, specially when I listen to Smells like teen spirit, Nick Cave- into my arms whenever I listen to this track I simply flows through it, I heard of other artists but I have not listen them yet, but I will as Neil young is good.

Thanks!!
