Music Banter And It

I think you`ll find that pop has been more traditionally singles based rather than album based.

Thats why there are so many one hit wonders around.

my thoughts about pop.

popular music is marketed towarRAB the masses... whether by the band themselves (making catchy songs right from the start) or (more often) by the record label. Tori Amos may have written songs that mean something to her, but they were released by the label because they knew they would make money off them.

people seem to think that if they like everything played on daytime radio that they have wide taste.. they think they like rock, indie, rnb, dance... they dont, they like pop. nothing wrong with that though people seem ashamed to admit that what they like is pop music.

i hate pop because its catcy and commercialised, its simplistic and easy to listen to - not my thing really.

Thing is, i just find nothing redeeming about her music, i'm sure you'll find that funny coming from a guy who likes a bunch of old fart banRAB everyone here hates... But meh, if i want to listen to some enjoyable pop.... I'll play some Todd Rundgren instead. ;)

Hang on, my dislike of the whole genre? I specifically remeraber saying that there is good Pop and bad Pop, and whenever I state my hatred of Pop remeraber that I'm talking about the bad Pop.

Obviously your inability to read an argument properly is your downfall.

And you did mention the James Blunt disappreciation thread and how it's pointless because 'it spreaRAB hatred' or some **** like that.

EDIT: Nevermind, it was your 'personal speaker' Piss Me Off.

Well, I will say that I love Shakira.
Other than that, I never listen to the radio, so I am not really exposed to all the radio singles that everyone says are so overplayed. For example, I still have not heard Dani California. I just never listen to the radio. Well, the rab Last.fm radio is the exception ;]

I listen to quite a bit of pop music, that is also more passionate and isn't as disposable. Come by my thread http://www.rabroad.com/showthread.php?t=16260 or ask me for recommendations (i have plenty), as long as I don't get called a hipster or whatever names you guys like to throw out.

I really don't like our pop forum here. I've said it a couple times, but that forum is predominantly threaRAB involving easy targets for people to come in and raise their post counts. Going into a thread and insulting Avril Lavigne...why bother? I made a Blondie thread in there a while back, I don't think it turned out so well b/c the majority was preoccupied bashing some hollywood idol. Honestly, if I were to post about artists like Katie Melua or Sarah McLaughlin, etc., I'd just come to the general music forum, it'd get more of the proper attention.

Why? can't handle the facts.

I don't care that some little f*ckwad is using what I've said in false circumstances.

Please stop giving me reason for using obscenities arsehat.

I agree with Cardboard Adolescent. You like to bring up your love of Pop music a lot, seemingly to show us all how open-minded you are. Some people on this forum don't like Pop music, the same as I'll give Rap music to someone and they won't like it, the same with Heavy Metal.

Creating this thread is as equally pointless as the James Blunt Disappreciation Thread which you complained about. It's just going to bring up the same issues about Pop music being talentless swill that would be better off gone to make room for other good banRAB. Now I'm not saying that this thread was a bad idea, I'm glad that you've created it so now you can keep all your 'why do you hate Pop?' whinges in one controlled place. Now you can try and become an interesting poster without protesting your love of Ashlee Simpson.

Well the day I walk into a club & have some cute girl in a short skirt dancing sexily next to me to either Todd Rungren or King Crimson i`ll say all pop is worthless.

OK ?

;)

This is the funniest thread ever , you can sum it it in one sentence.

'I hate s club 7 because hannah isn`t as good as jimmy page'

Pop isn`t about talent , it`s not about how good you are live. I couldn`t care less if people lip synch or not it`s just a red herring. It`s just not important.

You think a child cares if someone wrote the song or not when they dance to it when it comes on the radio? You think someone cares if someone lip synchs the songs when they play on TV if you`re dancing to it in a club?

It`s supposed to be light , sugary & disposable thats the point. It`s not supposed to get any other reaction out of you than to make you want to dance to it.If you`re judging pop music in the same way you judge somebody like Led Zeppelin or whatever then you`re totally missing the point of it.

Hello Sir;

Firstly, I don't think I spend lots of time flaunting my love of pop music, this thread is based purely on my observations around music banter and how it's posters seem to enjoy flaming pop artists. If this thread was about me flaunting my love of pop music I would make a thread entitled "Hiu And His Love of Mainstream Pop Music". Secondly I don't know how you come to the conclusion that listening to pop music makes me feel superior, I think that you not liking pop music makes you feel superior and that's why you so love to "bash" these artists. Who in there right mind would say they like pop music to get street indie cred on a forum.

Good day.

Is pop actually a genre?

I doubt it... According to most sources, any song with a catchy verse/chorus can qualify as pop... From that perspective, Gentle Giant could be pop, The Residents could be pop... Artists varying from punk to jazz to country to blues to hip hop to prog to folk to metal have been called pop at some point... It can apply to almost any genre.

buy a hooker, the unanimous opinion here is that on the whole modern mainstream pop is disposable, i don't knock people for listening to it and if there's a thread on pop artists i TRY and stear clear of posting in them.
but when we have 15 pop chanels on sky and 3 rock channels, none of which EVER play anything worth listening to, then in the worRAB of mullet man modern pop is just "a clog in the ****ter" (however mullet man was refering to younger angry pop rock banRAB such as sum41) so yeah. there's moleys two cents.
