Music Banter And It

Talent is debateable. Some might say Jackson Pollock isn't talented and just blobbed a few splatters of paint which anyone could do and became a well known american artist. Sure, he didn't get money while he was alive but still his paintings sell for a heafty sum these days.

Thats because people are told to see something that isn't there... For the record, i always thought Pollock was crap.

Talent can be objective in some ways... Technical skill is difinetely a talent, and it can be judged accurately and objectively.... Creativity, songwriting, now THAT is debatable... But writing something like a NSYNC or Britney Spears song isn't challenging at all.

The rock and hip hop you hear on radio stations are the water downed version of their genres and pop is the even more water downed banRAB. I'm sorry I can't support a genre that is solely driven by sensationalism. Other genres have their cases of such but that's what pop is, writing songs that the general public will like so people will buy your album.

I kinda enjoy a lot of music, but I think most of those artists who can't do anything but shake their stupid ..tts on the stage are DETRIMENTAL. When I look back to the music made in 70's and even the 80's and I look at the crap we're served as music nowadays I just feel like screaming. Maybe some here are a bit too opinated when they're coming against mainstream music, but I think good music should be also promoted, and unfortunately it's not the case

Nowhere in any of my posts have said I hate pop music. So as per usual Hiu has gone off half c*cked and used quotes that actually have no relevance to his argument.

Oh and I like the way he starts these "debates" and then buggers off.

I don't care to reply to someone acting in such a way that is not in the spirit of this thread. Please stop with the obscenities, thankyou.

What I want to know is why you (Hui) spend so much time flaunting your love for pop music. Great, you like it, but enough of your attempts to make yourself feel superior with your "open mindedness."

I'm still of the opinion that if you hear one Shakira song you've heard them all, and quite frankly I don't care enough to set out to prove myself wrong. I'd much rather listen to Double Nickels on the Dime again.

She has been playing guitar since she was at least 13 when she released he debut album, so i'm sure she's had enough practice to be competant at the instrument.

Ok, to the artist themselves, a given song or piece of music may have more meaning, but they put it out there for people to enjoy. To those that listen to it, it is entertainment. Even when a song makes you sad, or has sad memories attached to it, you still listen to it because you get some form of enjoyment out of it. You wouldn't listen if you didn't like.

Hobojesus, you're in for a hard time in the real world. How successful you are has little to do with how good you are, and more to do with who you know and how determined you are to be successful. That's the way the world works. Fair enough you don't like pop, but others do, is there anything so wrong in that?

I wanna get in on this cause this funny.

how popular a band is determined by how many people like it and to some extent proof of this is based on how many shows are sell outs.
Well the fact is most people (that is outside of rab) have bad tastes in music. I couldn't go out to say Tower RecorRAB and have an intelleigent conversation with an employee cause most of them just sell CRAB and don't know crap about what they're selling. And the fact is they know little more about music (no genre in particular) than the consumer theys they sell to. And in today's world most people turn to MTV or Vh1 for music and the fact is these networks cater to mainstream stuff.
I'd like to think that most of the people here at rab know a little something about music and for the most part I trust the opinion of most of you here when it comes to music related stuff.
If it seems like rab hates popular music it isn't so. Most of the people here (including the person that started this thread) doesn't just limit themselves to what the tv airs, or what their local radio station airs, so their knowledge of good music is somewhat broader.
We can dis people like Hillary Duff becuase we know that there's better stuff out there.
It's not thjat we're against popular musicm it's that we prefer the stuff that you won't hear on the tv or the radio.

You guys buying what I'm selling or am I wasting time?:hphones: :usehead:

Peace
