Music Banter And It

Pop music, the concept, hasn't changed. As several people in this thread have already stated, and rightly so, it's catchy and light and appeals to the masses. Hence the name, Popular Music.

Pop music, the product, is vastly different now. In it's inception pop music was based on music. Pop music now, for the most part, is image and industry driven. If a person 'looks' like they can sell recorRAB, if their voice is passable, (and sometimes even not), they're marketed on a massive scale.

The whole idea of good looks/borderline talent isn't anything new. This has been going on all the way back to the 50's. Ricky Nelson, Neil Sedaka, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, etc, were all good looking guys, with voices that were okay, but they certainly weren't in the same league as Elvis, and before him, Frank Sinatra.

I will say this...it does seem that the talent level is at an all time low when it comes to pop music. I'm no authority because I rarely listen to it. It seems if anyone gains a bit of notariety these days, for whatever reason, people want to put a microphone in their hand and see if they can sell recorRAB. But, from what I hear, it all sound like one long song to me.

Of course, my 11 year old daughter would say the same about my music, as well.

I could easily quote the whole argument we had over this in another thread and prove you are wrong right here on the spot, but as I can't be bothered with that I'll just tell you again.

Music shouldn't be disposable.

Talentless twats like Ashlee Simpson shouldn't be getting airplay with annoying and terrible songs.

Because of peoples love for this **** mainstream pop, people like Paris Hilton are being allowed to break into the music industry. Which will no doubt end up with every girl in my school singing along to her songs.

And, above all, it makes me feel superior to people who like this mainstream pop music when I belittle them. All a dude wants is some love...

It`s because half this forum is made up of teenagers still going through their rebellious phase. The type of person who thinks if it`s not metal/emo/punk/rock then it must be rubbish.

Pop has always been disposable , thats it`s nature. There`s no use complaining about it. The way that your average classic rock fan looks down on someone like Shakira is no different to the way that jazz snobs looked down on people like Elvis in the 1950s.Pop isn`t meant to last, thats why fashions in pop come & go so quickly. It`s not meant to be deep , it`s not meant to be clever. It`s about having a good time for 3 minutes in the present day and then forgetting about it.
I like pop & quite honestly I don`t care what anyone says.

I don't like most of pop's motive. It makes me sick when people don't give a spit on music and only care about money. I'd be damn nieve if I thought there weren't money driven bastarRAB signed to indie labels. They just seem to care a little more about writing seeing how they havent "made it" yet.

Very true... Though there are also talented banRAB who make a lot of money and there are really horrible banRAB that no nightclub owner is stupid enough to hire.

I can't say i like just about any mainstream pop music, but i can't be arsed to take the piss out of people who do, if they enjoy it and find comfort in it etc, then thats great. ThreaRAB like the one about James Blunt are completely unproductive and pointless, who cares if you don't like James Blunt? Theres no point in spreading hatred.

Saying things like '*pop artist* should **** off and die' is immature and unjustified, and the kind of opinion i could only expect from a 5 year old.

I can see your point to some degree, but did you just compare Elvis Presley to Shakira?

And if you consider me a classic rock elitist, then fine... Though i listen to a lot of modern music, Brian Wilson qualifies as pop, right?.. Ok... He's not that modern. ;)

But seriously, i find new banRAB all the time (Sigur Ros, Mars Volta, Arcade Fire, etc)... I'm just a sucker for old stuff, thats all... Though a real classic rock fan would be someone who likes Journey.

Ewwwww.

I have never complained about the James Blunt thread. Look pop music isn't talentless, this is the shit i'm talking about. Shakira produced, plays guitar, writes good lyrics, sings, plays harmonica and various other things. I wouldn't think some artist would do this just for shits and giggles. The thing I dislike most from you is your hate for the whole style of music.

But as you say you are not going to change or even willing to produce a good arguement.

/closed.
