hi janellapee,
you said that you have had your blood tested - did your doc test your vitamin d level? certain vitamin deficiencies can cause muscle twitching, and mine was caused by a vitamin d deficiency. when i started supplementing, they got a lot better. i've been on vitamin d for about six weeks and the twitches are pretty much gone. hope this helps! lily

I had blood tests done because I was feeling bad and had muscle twitching. My potassium, calcium and sodium were low. DR. wanted more info so had 24 hour urine collection and it showed extreme potassium loss. Your minerals need to be in the correct balance for proper relaxation and contraction. You might want your dr. to order a blood test. Don't ignore it like I did for a long time. Even thought I'm on medication now for what turned out to be a kidney problem where they are letting too much potassium leave my body, the dr. said it could take six months before my muscles start feeling better. Now I'm playing catch up with alot of supplements. Good luck.

another big thing that should be checked but probably was not is your magnesium. this has a very direct impact upon the muscles, even more so than having low postassium. while low potassium usually causes more crampy muscle type pain, low mag would cause some pretty intense spasms almost any place you actually have muscle. my son had both the low potassium(gave him calf cramps, really bad ones) and low mag the following week while in liver failure, the low mag caused some really horrid muscle contractions/contorsions along with very "snappy' like muscle flapping and finger spasming in his hands. very very insane stuff, just from the low mag. the low potassium had already been corrected, but when they had checked that on the routine test, for some reason, the mag is not a part of that basic metabolic panel,so we didn't have a clue. i ended up taking him to the ER that night the flapping and contorsions just started out of nowhere and they did check his mag and it was very very low. there is a reason why they call magnesium 'natures little muscle relaxer".

once we started supplimenting his mag with mag ox 400,he was fine and the muscle nightmares stopped. this is something that just should also be checked out considering your symptoms. while it may not be the sole reason,it could be playing a big part in it. then it would be a matter of finding out why the mag is low. just really checking out all minerals and the chemical balances(and also a kidney/liver panel) should be done in your case. certain conditions just tend to deplete(or actually build up) certain things in our bodies when they are not functioning up to par. in order to arrive at any real Dx of any condition its just kind of test and rule out,or in. but i would get this done as soon as you can. something is causing this to occur in you and simply needs to be found out. good luck with this and please keep us posted. Are you taking Sudefed or Benadryl? Both can cause twitching throughout your body. I have taken these on and off for a long time. I had twitching going on and finally saw a neurologist. She ran all the important tests right upfront. She found nothing and asked if I was taking meds for my allergies. She mentioned Sudefed and said absolutely that can cause muscle twitches. When I went off of it. They went away. So that may be something you may consider should you be taking an allergy med. Relax and try not to stress about it. Good luck!
