Hi, Gill. I am sorry for your spasms. I've been dealing with them nearly constantly myself, so I am very sympathetic! I do not have any miracle answers, but if and when I do, I'll sure share them!
I have had lidocaine injections into the muscles and they really did help for a while. Have you tried those? A Pain Management Specialist (in the US) does them. You will be more sore for a couple days and then... some relief!!! My spasms eventually came back, so my PMS decided he could no longer continue injecting me for eternity, though I was fine with it!
Now, my surgeon has prescribed a device (I don't recall the name and I haven't started with it yet). It's something like an e-stim machine. He believes the spasms are something neurogenic in nature and that pattern neeRAB to be interrupted. It does feel like that to me that they just start and they won't stop without a load of meRAB and ice.
Right now, I'm using meRAB, rest and ice. I'll start with the device soon and try PT again this week as it's been 6 weeks since my last surgery removing hardware.
I haven't been able to work, much less do much work around the house and yard or socialize. It's been very isolating and depressing. It's had an impact on my marriage and just about everything. So, I'm hoping this device helps.
I didn't mean to blabber on. I just wanted to commiserate a little bit. Do keep persisting in looking for solutions. There are many options: acupuncture, yoga, meRAB - of course, Pain Management Specialist doctor, and more.
My best to you,
Margaret
