Muppets - Wasted At Disney?

Does anyone else think the Muppets have been sadly wasted since Disney snapped them up exclusively? The only films since were the straight-to-TV Muppet Christmas and Wizard Of Oz.

Also, after an initial flurry at Disney shops, there is very little merchandise from the Muppets brand...

They may not be the force they were, but i still think they have a large fan base.

And if they were so far outdated, why did Disney buy up the franchise in the first place?

The Muppets have never been as big as their late 70's early 80's heyday. I am not surprised you don't see much merchandise.

Like the show at Disney-MGM Studios though!

Muppet Christmas Carol and Treasure Island are two of my favourite Films.

I love the stories, The Characters and the songs.

They have been seriously wasted however since then. The fact that Wizard of Oz was made, is imo a good move. Using old stories with a muppet twist, great films can be made, Muppets in Space was dire, they should just find a good story and put the muppets to it rather than try to (and fail) to write a brand new story for the Muppets

I was so sad when Jim Henson died, but was glad that he walked this earth at all. He was a true master of puppetry, film and TV. Would Sesame Street have ever made it without him?

I think Brian, Jim's son, does a great Kermit. Thankfully Frank Oz is still going so we still have his voice and talents to enjoy.

Agreed.

I have not enjoyed the muppets since Muppet Treasure Island (or The Muppet Christmas Carol...whichever came last?). It's all been downhill since then, imho.
