That will work plus you still have a couple outputs left.

I'm not sure if workforbell posted the most current information but I don't mind being corrected. I added my 9200 after installing the SW44A/SW44 set up. I had to download the latest s/w and activated it over the phone. I couldn't use the online activation as the system has 6 active receivers on my account when I only had 5 but that is another CSR story. Everything worked fine in my case, however, perhaps workforbell is describing a different situation to mine.

Hi everyone,

I see plently of threads explaining how to setup up to 4 receivers and making them able to receive signal from both 82 and 91 birds.

I have not yet been able to find a thread which explains how to setup 5 or more using one dish. One dish is the maximum I am planning on setting up. (I already have it going)

I have done some research and heard about using a digital splitter running 2.5 GHz. This would split the lines coming in from the LNB so that they can go to two (2) SW44 multiswitches. This idea I have not yet confirmed and hope this forum will be a good resource.

To help this thread, I created a diagram of my proposed layout. As this progresses I'll post a final layout.

My current setup using just the 91 bird is too embarrassing to post here. :P

Thanks everyone in advance.

I am also having some issues on how to run my system. right now I have one receiver which is 2 tuner. In the near future I will have 3 receivers all 2 tuner.

Right now I have 2 lines from the dishes coming into the house and at the dish there are 2 sw21 for 91 and 82. My question is what is the best way to have my system feed 6 lines in the house to the 3 receivers, 2 lines for each. Would I have to run more lines into the house from the dish or can I just use the 2 I have and what other equipment would I need to make this work. A diagram would help.

This will do what you want and is the "Bell way" of doing it. Another option is to daisy chain an SW44A switch with an SW44 which is what I do. Some people prefer two dishes.

You should reread this thread and do a search there are at least 4 options described here:
  • 2 dishes with multi switches
  • Dish Pro Dual LNP
  • SW44 's with splitters
  • SW44A with SW44 cascade

IMO a lot depends on if you want to do it yourself or not. If that is not an option just call a local installer and he can make it happen using any one of the above methods.

In any event, if you don't want more cables coming in, change to a twin Dish Pro LNB, otherwise, I'm fairly certain you will have to use 2 dual legacy LNBs and run 4 wires into your house and then choose the best combination of switches/splitters for your application.

When I called Bell technical help asking how to add more than 4 receivers they tried to tell me the only option was to set-up a second dish, there was no mention of splitters or SW44A etc. I do not know if that is their only solution or not but that's what they told me. Of course they offered to sell me a new dish/LNB and the install etc. Perhaps a second technician would have given different advice but I knew from this forum that you do not need 2 dishes to run 6 receivers.

Even though they allow customers to have 6 receivers (perhaps more for grandfathered customers) they do not make it clear how this can be achieved. Imagine if you had 6 9200's, based on the advice I received Bell they would want to install 3 dishes.

If you have more questions post them or PM me but as mentioned elsewhere there are numerous threads on this topic.

I'll problably require four (4) splitters.

I am also afraid of signal loss if I daisy chain.

I would do it myself as I did the install myself already. I would prefer not to put up another dish. I swear I read this whole thread and I was still stumped.

Sorry for appearing to be terse (I am still on my first coffee). As I mentioned here before, I like the SW44A SW44 cascade method as diagramed by Riiioun

I know that workforbell has some concerns about this method but it has worked for me and others with no problems. I know it is not the "Bell way"
but if you have any questions about it I would gladly answer them from my perspective.

Perhaps someone else could provide details on how the official Bell method to installing more that 4 receivers.

I would imagine two SW44's and four HF splitters would be the "Bell way" of installing more than four tuners. I say that because Bell only supports the SW44 switch, none of the Dishpro stuff yet.

That said, Bell really needs to switch to the DishPro/Plus equipment. We shouldn't have to install four lines into the house or run two lines to each PVR. As PVR popularity grows, the need for >4 tuners will also. They need a plan.

Me, I'm hoping for a triple tuner PVR :D

You do need four High Frequency splitters but each of the four LNB outputs must go to both switches. Each splitter is going to cause a small signal drop as well. I wouldn't worry about that in either case though. Just make sure your dish is well aligned and all your cables are terminated properly.

See this thread:

My understanding is that you can also hook up 4+ receivers using DishPro 34 switches and you'll only need two cables off the dish, not four, as is the case with the SW44 switches. In order to use DishPro 34 switches, you need to have a DishPro Twin LNB, which is a "double" LNB with built-in SW21 switches. DP34s might also work with two dual LNBs and SW21s, as long as everything is DishPro.

I have not priced the equipment yet.

It would be ideal for me to stay away from a second dish as it would be an eye sore on the side of the house. One is bad enough.

I think that should do it I just need to get the new lnb and dp34 switches and I should be able to do what I want to do without running more cables into the house.

This thread should be somehow tattooed on the forehead of all Bell employees - (maybe they don't know that when we the consumers can have more than 4 receivers they make more money). Once a telephone company always a telephone company. This is in the public domain and they just stand there and act dumb. Amazing. They must thank god for the CRTC every morning.

Seriously however - when installing the SW44 and 44A cascading config I understand that you should set it up firstly without the 44A in the loop, initialize all the terminals then power everything down, install the 44A between the dish and the 44 then power up again?

Just get a dishpro Plus twin LNB and 2 dishpro Plus (dpp44) Cascadable 4x4 Switches.
You don't need any 2.4ghz splitters.

Also not sure if this is an allowable question but where is the best (and cheapest) Canadian website to buy a 44A online?
