Multiple questions...I want to be an author?

I recently decided I want to write books when I'm older because I'm really good at writing and I have a good imagination. Here are my questions:

1- What kind of classes should I take in high school?
2- What kind of college should I go to?
3- Is it possible to get a scholarship for that college(s)?

Any authors or writers please answer, or frankly anyone who knows.
 
Take English classes! Take writing courses in college as well as literature courses, even dramatic courses to study play writing. Learn everything that you can about writing, concentrating on format, style, grammar, and the essentials of the craft. You should attend a liberal arts college with a good English department, also to obtain a well-rounded education. The only way to become a candidate for a scholarship is to have GOOD GRADES in high school; scholarships are difficult to achieve. Being valedictorian of your class would be helpful! You need to work hard and learn the craft. However, there ARE cases of writers becoming best-selling authors without having attained college educations. Still, you may find the road to success easier to navigate if you have the credentials; the publishing community will be more inclined to take you seriously. Good luck!
 
Okay so writing workshop...creative writing...try to get into all the advanced english classes. Believe it or not, you really do get more out of the advanced classes. Other than that...idk. I'm still in highschool. But these classes do help. I would also take Mythology, just cuz the stories help with imagination. And poetry in rock music...idk if you have that class. I don't like journalism, but it helps when it comes to editing and revising and finding your voice. Hope this somewhat helped.

1. English classes will help you to write well, but you also need to live. Have experiences. Gather something to write about.
2. Most undergraduate colleges will be able to help you. Again, don't let your classes get in the way of your education.
3. Later look into an MFA program. The University of Iowa is probably still the best. UNLV is also very good. Scholarships are available at some of these places. If not scholarships then look into teaching assistantships. Good luck.
 
1. obviously english classes. Ap Language has some writing. some high schools have a creative writing club.

2. whichever you want! there are schools that you can major in english, or you can major in something else and be a writer as a side job. like get a job as an english teacher and write at the same time.

3. im sure there are. There are tons of writing contests to enter, im sure if you win many it will prove you are talented.


Dont get discouraged. Its easy to decide something but sticking with it is harder. Remember why you write. its been said that its a writers purpose in life to share their stories with the world, dont stop telling just because some people are too ignorant to listen.
