Msn is acting all weird?

Hey I use Windows Live Messenger 2009 version (Version 14.0) and since the past couple of weeks it keeps giving me pop ups that people who I don't even have on my list have signed in and when I click the little square that pops up it gives an error that we are unable to start a conversation with blah blah, please try again. Then I go through my list to see if this person is actually there and no such person exists.

Whats going on!? Anybody??
