First I had my x rays showing L5 on s1 spondylolisthesis with probable L5 spondylolyloysis. Mild disk space DJD changes at this level. Mild dextroscoliosis. The doctor's office called with the MRI results today and said there was a small fracture, disk bulging, narrowing in vertebrae, and hole in the bone on the lower part of the narrowing in the vertebrae. I was writing it down while she was saying it so I hope I have it right. I am hoping to have them fax me a copy of the report to my work. I've been in quite a bit of pain and my work hours have been cut to 3 1/2 to 4 hr days which are going to hit us bad financially, but nothing I can do about it-it was due to doctor's restrictions and my pain. I am scheduled to see a neurosurgeon on Dec 22 but I asked my doctor to call and try to get me in sooner-don't know if it will work, but I thought I would try. With what they found, can anyone tell me what can I probably expect when I go see the neurosurgeon? Thanks for any input. How are you doing Megss? Tami

Hey Tami!

I am so glad you got your results. Waiting really stinks. Your results sounRAB pretty similar to mine, although I don't have a hole in the bone. I have L5 on S1 Spondy like you, the fracture is in the L5 pars, narrowing of L4-L5 disc space with mild disc disease. That same disc also has an annular tear. It is hard to know what to expect from your first appointment with the surgeon, but I will tell you about mine. Basically he went over everything that is wrong with me and explained it to me in detail, while showing me the MRI and x-ray photos. He spent about an hour with my husband and I. He did a quick exam to test my strength, and he order 2 more tests. A CT scan, which I had yesterday, and a discogram. It is annoying, but they have to be very thorough and sure about everything before operating. The CT scan was to get a close up view of the spondy. He wants to see how old the fracture is. The discogram, which I have next week, is to find out if any of my pain is coming from the disc. If it is, I may need a fusion at that level as well. He is also having me start PT (I start next week) to strengthen my back before surgery. I am only scheduled for 3 appointments of that. Then I meet with him again Dec 10th to put all my test results together and come up with the surgery plan. I am assuming surgery will be scheduled that day.
Definately try to get into see the surgeon sooner. My orthopedic clinic that I am going to is WELL AWARE of my sense of urgency, and twice now they have called me to move my appointment up due to someone else canceling.

I am hanging in there. I am getting the paper work together with my company to begin disability. I am to the point that I cannot work anymore. They want me to start disability now, but I am going to wait until I at least have a surgery date, which I will hopefully know on Dec 10th.

How are you holding up?

Hi Megss, I was hoping you were going to read the post-I had your name inculded in the post after MRI results saying "and update for Megss" but they removed it. I am very surprised that you are still working at all from what I've been reading in your other posts. I felt so bad about your close calls with the accidents. I'm hanging in there. It's helped to not be working mornings-as for the pain. I did apply for partial unemployment benefits since ny hours have been cut in half-it won't be much-but it's something. The waiting is the worst! I will call my doctor's office this morning and ask if he did call the neurosurgery center to see about moving up my appt or see if I can be put on a cancellation list. I did get a copy of my MRI report-this is everything in technical detail if anyone has anything else to add:

Findings: There is mild disk space narrowing and degenerative disk desiccation at L5-S1. There is approx 7mm anterior spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1 and bilateral spondylolysis at L5-S1. The L1-L2-3, L3-4,disks are unremarkable. There is mild diffuse disc bulge at L4-5. No central stenonis or nerve root impingement. Mild diffuse disc bulge at L5-S1. This results in mild narrowing of the left L5-S1 netral foramen. The right neural foramen appears widely patent. No central stenosis. Impression: Grade 1 anterior spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1 with bilateral spondylolysis. Mild narrowing of the left L5-S1 neural foramen. Mild diffuse disc bulge at L4-5.

Thanks for your input Megss and good luck-please keep me updated!!!
Thanks for any other input anyone else may add.

Good for you to apply for unemployment. It isn't much, you are right, but you will manage. I was laid off from my job last Dec, right after returning from maternity leave. I received unemployment while I looked for a new job. If I remeraber correctly, I got $300/ week. I have no clue how we paid the bills, but we did.
I took today off from work to give myself a 5 day weekend, and the pain didn't get to a 9 or 10 like it usually does. I would say it only got to a 6. Resting really helps. I napped with my daughter, it was so nice. My job is now saying I can't go on disability leave just yet. I almost cried when I read that email.
Try to have a nice holiday tomorrow! I am not looking forward to being busy tomorrow, but I am in charge of the turkey, stuffing, and gravy. I think I am getting up at 5am in the morning to put the turkey in the oven. Yuck!
