MRI-Open or Closed-question

I am going to have two mri's back to back on the 15th. It's going to be open. What I want to know is, what is the difference between open and closed, and is there much difference in the cost?
Thanks

Tandy,
The films tend to not be as clear with an open MRI machine. The magnet which needs to go around to get the pictures is too far from the body, so the pictures usually are not as clear as the surgeon would like them to be.
I would recommend that you go have a closed MRI instead. If anxiety is the problem, maybe your surgeon could give you something to help with the anxiety.
Good luck,

I asked the woman that set the mri's up and she said they were about the same. I wonder if it was because the open was more..... I just want the one that gives the best reading.
Thanks for your reply

An open MRI is only a T 0.7 and a closed MRI is a T 1.5 or higher depending on the imaging center.

A closed MRI machine isn't that bad,the higher the T(telsa) the better the images.

Hopes this helps.

To relieve anxiety while in the MRI machine, close your eyes before entering and keep them closed the whole time.
You will not realize how close quarters it is by doing this. If you open your eyes even once you lose the benefit of entering with eyes closed.
