Mr. Peabody and Sherman to get their own movie by Dreamworks (2014)

Look, it's a segment that probably could work for a whole movie, it probably could certainly work in CG (provided they kept the cartoony look), Downey could probably make a decent Peabody...

... but from the sound of that article, they're taking the characters waaay too seriously. Particularly with the mention of 'outcast'.

Isn't this the third time this adaptation was proposed?

I know have seen them before but the most memorable scene of them was in the Simpsons lol.

Sherman: That's right Mr. Peabody!

Mr. Peabody: Quiet you!

I actually heard about this YEARS ago. I actually thought it might have been abandoned.

With Rob Minkoff (who not only co-directed the Lion King, but also some of those Roger Rabbit shorts from the late '80s and early '90s) at the helm, I think it might be decent. I hope it's at least better than previous films based on Jay Ward creations (which were mostly the kinda stuff that are just begging to be reviewed by the Nostalgia Critic.

My ultimate idea for a Rocky and Bullwinkle movie (as if anyone cared) was to retain the format of the series and have 8 minute segments (Rocky and Bullwinkle, Peabody, Dudley Do-Right, ect.) that seem disconnected at first, but as the film goes on the seperate stories begin to overlap and by the end you have all the characters together.

Oh, and each segment would be in a different animation style.

100 million dollars please!

I heard about it a while ago. Since I haven't heard anything about it since, I figured it was abandoned. I agree that Robert Downey, Jr. would make a good choice for a voice, but they have got to be joking about the origin story part.

It's just concept art, but I like it.

A Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie has potential to be a pretty darn decent, I'd say.

It all depends on how well it's executed. With Dreamworks, I'm a little iffy about it. We'll see.

You're right. I think that this is his return to Dreamworks after leaving Megamind. I think that he probably would have been better as the title character but I'm cool with him being involved in this film.

I also like the concept art of Mr. Peabody. I think that the film should stay in 2D even though that's not going to happen.

Very, very solid concept art. I like it. I hope Sherman gets the same treatment.

Come to think of it, they're probably going to revamp the WABAC into something radically different, aren't they? Something more than a giant computer with an entrance door?

I was a bit weary when I heard about his movie, but I really like this design. It's appealing in addition to being faithfull to the original. Of course, Jay Ward cartoons were much more than their visuals. This movie needs a sharp wit if it wants to avoid the lows of previous Bullwinkle Show adaptations.

For everyone complaining about the possibility of an origin story, I?d like to point out that there actually is one in the cartoon. Peabody was a college graduated genious who worked for the government and Sherman was an orphan . Peabody felt empty after all of his accomplishments and adopted Sherman when he saw how horribly he was treated. He originally made the Wabac as a present for Sherman?s birthday.

Don?t get me wrong, I hate forced emotional pathos as much as the next guy, but there is some justification for an ?origin? movie here.

Personally, while I wouldn't mind seeing some of Peabody's origin, a Disney/Pixar vibe wouldn't be right for this movie. One of the things that ruined the previous Jay Ward adaptations (aside from them being live-action) was the forced emotional weight. I actually hope this will be in the vain of the Spongebob Squarepants movie. I think it's one of the few cartoon adaptations to balance the comedey and pathos. Sure, there was SOME emotional weight, but only what was needed to ground the plot and characters. The true driving force of that movie was the humor and animation. Hillenburg & co. knew they didn't have to be Shakespeare to entertain us for an hour.

The appeal of these characters isn't deeply involving or compelling stories. If Dreamworks follows the same train of thought I think this movie will be better for it.

BTW, this is a BIT off topic but was it ever stated anywhere that the CN Toon Time Squad ever at least took INFLUENCE from Peabody? Because I swear that Otto was pretty much a Sherman clone and the concept was pretty similar.
