I think they were supposed to be the companies Brad and Angelina were working for. Their companies thought it was bad business to have two spies/assassins married so sought to eliminate them?
I haven't seen it in a while and that's what I can recall.
I quite liked it, although it seemed to stop before the real end of the film. Maybe I'm just cynical, but it seemed far too set up for a sequel, and I don't believe the 'men in black' would have just let them get on with their lives after the showdown in the mall.
