i currently have the motorola v635 and its great and everything. only problem with its mp3 player is i cant get my v635 to play variate (changing) bitrate mp3s. ive read that if i convert the mp3 to non-changing format itll work...but im not willing to put in the effort to convert that many mp3s to fill up 1gb.

anyone have suggestions on the phone that plays mp3s pretty well? my price range is max $250 USD and im looking for brands either motorola, nokia, samsung, and sony

Are you GSM Or CDMA? If your CDMA and have Verizon go for the VX9800 its an awesome phone has a keyboard mp3 player gps navagation bluetooth 1.8 megapixel camera some other stuff just cant name right now. Oh miniSD card slot. If your on Cingular and looking for a phone that uses iTunes I suggest maybe a Rockr if you have a small budget if not get a SLVR. Thats all I can say. If you have Verizon you might want to hold out and wait for the Chocolate since it has a cool ui good mp3 player and looks very stylish.

yea i have GSM and im on tmobile. thanks for the suggestions...so im guessing motorola/nokia/samsung dont make good mp3 players? cause i rather go with those

//EDIT: i just realized thats the sonys use Memory Stick Duo while the v635 uses the microSD memory...im looking for a phone that supports the microSD as i dont want this 1gb card to go to waste

Motorola is a flat out no for good mp3 players (unless you like the iTunes integration).

Nokia's player tend to be a little on the basic side, unless you want a series 60 phone (although I don't know if nokia uses MicroSD)

Samsung's players tend not to be able to work in the background.

If you want the best mp3 experience from a non smartphone, SE is the way to go.

Motorola ROKR is good. Also, check out the Motorola RAZR V3i, it has iTunes integration, its a flip, and the cam is the same as the V635 so you would basically have a very similar phone to your current one. Alse the Motorola SLVR L7 is ok, but its cam is VGA. All the above phones can have iTunes integration.

yea i was strongly considering the v3i since im a big moto fan...but i was just wondering if there are any otheres and as for the rokr...i dont like it i think the design is poor...rokr2 maybe but thats not out yet. any other suggestions?

What about the aforementioned SLVR? Also, if you can wait for the ROKR E2 to come out...do, there is a whole new UI and its a great music phone too

Just a reminder that there is a limit on the number of songs you can use with the iTunes software. If you want to use more than the 100 or 50 song limitation, you have to use the built in java player, which is slow and FAR behind SE.

Why not just sell the card? Why base your phone purchase on the memory card you currently have? It really should be the other way around

That doesn't work with the V3i (last time I checked) and I can't remember whether or not it works on the SLVR. The only phones I've seen with it working are the E398/Rokr/V360. You also have to use mototunes instead of iTunes to upload over the 100 song limit. My E398 has it and it's a pain, I'd rather just drag and drop files (its also REALLY slow)

Heres a suggestion: Moto Mpx220

I use it as my primary Mp3 player. I bought some Cingular branded 3.5mm adapters (from Cingular store, they also sell them online), that are made for the Rokr E1, but they are perfect.

It's a smartphone, it runs windows Mobile, and I use the built in Media Player 10.0 for Mp3s (basic, but everything works). You can also download/install/buy other media players that will play more formats, equalizer etc. Sound quality is great (I use a pair of Senn MX300s and Etymotic ER-4Ps).

I'm on Cingular so the 850 helps. And the phone functionality itself is good. I listen to Mp3s far more than I'm on the phone though, and I end up having to charge the phone almost every day. The Mp3 plays about 8 hours before the phone dies completely.

I would NOT recommend ANY SE for the purpose of listening to music. Five Words: FAST PORT IS PURE SH*T. Can you say loose connections, snap off in pocket, loss of sound in one ear? Take it from an experience K750/W800 user. The SE phones are good for their cameras, the good sound quality, and listening to Mp3s while staying ABSOLUTELY STILL.
