MP3 Battery Life

I'm new here, so hello. Thanks for reading.

I'm looking for a phone that will double as an mp3 player without sapping my talk time in only a few hours of playback. In fact I'm looking for a ridiculously long play time to rival or beat the upcoming iphone. May or may not exist, but that's my goal.

It makes sense to me that a phone with a few hours of talk time (communicating with radio towers, utilizing a speaker, and whatnot) should have at LEAST that much time and probably much more, available to be used reading mp3's from an SD Memory card and piping them through my earbuds.

However it seems that after talking to authorities on the matter, the fact is that mp3 play times seem to be far less than talk times. Is this correct? How can that be?

Thanks for your time.

Alright well, I'm only bumping once because, well, bumping is lame.

From the complete lack of replies I gather my question was either too general, or deemed "not 1337 enough" by the consensus of the community.

So hoping for the first (and after searching your forums), what is the MP3 battery life on the Sony Ericsson w710i?

Thanks for your time.
