MP3 Alarms

Thanks for the info. I knew of these and the thing with them is that they don't integrate with DateBk5. I REALLY want to find something that will replace DateBk5 alarms with MP3's (I can make appt.'s in DateBk5 with alarms that use MP3's). There's nothing I found (other than Kool Sounds) that does this. Kool Sounds is not compatible with an app. on my device (rendering it unuseable).

Thanks for your thoughts though!!!!!!!!!!

Not quite sure if this meets your needs, but I was looking for a program that will play MP3s for alarms and someone recommended 2PlayMe. I loaded it on my T5 and have been very happy with it. Not too expensive, and works as advertised. Highly recommended!

The timing of this thread could not have come at a better time for me. My cd alarm clock broke down this week and I was actually thinking about how to replace the clock. My wife suggested that I get an MP3 alarm clock. However, the only MP3 alarm clock I was aware of was designed for iPods. I don't have an iPod so that is a very expensive option for me to consider. When looking for some information to post in my first reply on this thread, I was pleasantly surprised to see these MP3 programs existed. My plan now is to purchase an MP3 alarm program for my T3 and a good set of computer speakers to plug into the T3's headphone jack.

I downloaded the trial version of 2 Play Me and tested it on my T3. These are my observations about the program.

1. When I chose Pocket Tunes as the player, I received Fatal Exception errors. I use Pocket Tunes version 2.3.2 and it is registered. I don't know if this is one of the limitations of the trial version of 2 Play Me. I would appreciate it if somebody with the registered version of this program would let me know if this issue exists. I don't want to purchase this program if it has compatibility issues with Pocket Tunes.

2. 2 Play Me works good with Real Player. However, you are unable to select specific songs to play. For some reason, 2 Play Me plays back the most recent MP3 file opened in Real Player. On the positive side of this, I discovered that even playlists will be opened by 2 Play Me. The ability to open playlists is a strong point for me to consider. Before I make a decision about which program to use, I plan on testing the others out first.

Hmmm........ 2PlayMe works with pTunes Deluxe on my Palm TX. I will tell you this ..... the author of 2PlayMe seems very responsive. I'd try giving him a shout and see if he can help.

Cheers,

Sorry I can't help, I have a registered version of 2PlayMe but I don't have PocketTunes on my T5, but I did notice the web site I linked above says...

I use Real Player with great success. Yes, it does have the limitation that it will only start playing the last song you have loaded, but I just created a playlist of tunes I want to wake up to and make sure it is loaded when I go to bed. As I use the World Clock as well, it doesn't take but an extra second or two to set it up. I like how you can set a different time for different days of the week, about the only problem I can remember is not to schedule multiple alarms to go off at the same time on your Palm. But for the price ($11), it is well worth it!

After testing some of the other programs, I am leaning towards 2 Play Me. Palmary is a good program for those who travel a lot. However, setting up alarms is not as straightforward as 2 Play Me and there is no way to test the alarm when confirming it is set up right.

Techsounds comes closer to integrating into Datebk than the other programs. However, you have to convert your audio files to a special format recognized by the Palm OS. You can choose the sounds for appointments, tasks, reminders, etc. Despite this close integration, the downside to this program is the lack of native file support and storing the files on the internal memory.

Well, I ended up purchasing 2 Play Me. The program is simple and not bloated with extra functions. I have Citytime already, so having the extra features in Palmary would be redundant. In addition, 2 Play Me was the only program that allowed me to work with playing lists. I have been known to sleep through alarms before. If I have one short song selected, I might not hear it.

After purchasing 2 Play Me, I was able to get it to work with Pocket Tunes by disabling the Random playing option. The sound quality in Pocket Tunes is better than RealPlayer. Also, I purchased a set of amplified computer speakers and plugged them into the headphone jack on my T3. The sound is great!

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback. I am happy with this purchase.

If you want something that will play MP3s, or any specialized non-MIDI sounds, as calendar alarms, it has to be something like TechSounds. 2PlayMe, cool as it is, is just an alarm clock and even scheduler. It has to be something that takes over the calendar alarms database, i.e. TechSounds.

But DateBk5 is a special case. It many not be possible for a sound player to get between the DateBk5 and the standard Palm alarm layer.

FWIW, I installed DioPlayer (free) on my T3. I've also installed Crony which lets you set a very customized schedule for doing a lot of different things on your Palm. I use it to start DioPlayer in the AM. DioPlayer is set to automatically play on start up. Before I go to bed in the evening, I select the song I want to wake up to in the AM. In the AM, Crony starts Dio at the scheduled time and the song I selected plays. Voila, MP3 alarm. For Free! Of course, this doesn't solve the problem of DB5/6 using MP3s. The only way I've ever done that was with Koolsounds and it worked pretty well.
