Moving to Camp Lejeune, NC?

My boyfriend is a marine stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. We have talked about me moving down there after fall semester is over. I have a three year old daughter, and we are wanting to get married this fall. But before we get into this to deep, we want to know how it's going to be starting over. My questions is what if any type of assistance does the military offer? I am in college full time, and he plans to adopt my daughter. Is it cheaper to go to school down there, do they assist with childcare? Any answers are appreciated, Thank you in advance!!!

I currently live in Camp Lejeune

There is a community college, Coastal Carolina here and also University of North Carolina in Wilmington right down the road and East Carolina University in Greenville. I am in Graduate school at UNCW Once you marry your bf, you can receive residency rates at the Universities. I am not sure how long it will take for you to get residency once u more here and remain unmarried though. The university will help u with that if you call them.

You can apply for school there at anytime; it will be a normal transfer. However, I do remind you only spouses can receive immediate residency rates. On base they do have childcare centers. There are lots of other daycare centers in town too for you. Jacksonville, NC is not the most thrilling place to be, but it is manageable if you are with someone you love! The beach is fun and I enjoy some of the other aspects. Good luck. Email me if you have any questions or want to ask about housing/apts in the area or anything else. There is a link to my email in my profile.

Welcome to CLNC
There is a local community college in Jacksonville called Coastal Carolina Community College. It offers the usual courses that most community colleges offer around the country.
A little over a hour north there is ECU, East Carolina University, a very good school that's been around a long time.
To the south is UNC-W, University North Carolina-Wilmington, a state school. Both are good schools worthy of you checking them out. Once you are married to your Marine you will qualify for in-state tuition. You'll have to Google the schools I've mentioned and compare the costs for yourself. I've gone to ECU and found their rates are very reasonable.
As far as the base goes, there are day care centers, but they are usually booked solid, so I'd suggest once here checking out some of the civilian centers. Also, there are always people that run small day cares from their homes.
Camp Lejeune is right on the Atlantic Ocean, lots of water activities to do. Base housing is available, but like most bases there is a waiting list, so you two will most likely have to rent a place in town.
I've lived in the area for over 20 years and would be happy to answer any questions you may have yet.
