Moving from a rental with extremely short notice...?

We moved from another state into a rental in WY Thanksgiving of '09. We had a one year lease (when we moved in we paid a pro-rated rent from Thanksgiving to 1st of Dec. so our year lease was up Dec. '10) with month to month agreement thereafter. My husband was transferred by his company to another state in very short notice, we had only one week to move. We let our property manager know our situation the day we found out & told her that we would be out mid-night Feb 3rd 2011 to get to the other state in time for husbands job. The agreement states we are to give 30 day notice but were not able to.
Anyway, we moved out & when I called THE DAY AFTER WE WERE OUT to have utilities switched out of my name they told me it had already been switched over to the new tenants that morning! The home was shown to a couple 2 days before we were out (on Feb 1st with NO notice to us that the property manager or the perspective tenants were even coming) while we were still in the process of moving our stuff!

So my question is: since the rental was only vacant for a matter of hours between us leaving & new tenants moving in, are we entitled to our deposit back? It was agreed that they would accept our deposit in place of rent for the month of Feb.

I'm not trying to nit pick about what would normally be our issue, having to pay a months rent for us having to transfer location on short notice, but deposit wasn't just a tiny bit of money, it is $1200!

Thanks, just want to know what is "lawfully right" in this situation for both us & the property manager.
