I may be moving in a month or so. In order to get a new dish (and leave the old behind) do I have to have bell do the install. As I have 6 receivers in my home now, I'm not going to pay 5 x $50 extra ($250) to have them installed when I can do it myself.
I moved 6 years ago and they just sent me a dish in the mail and I installed my self, does it work the same way now?

When I moved I just had them hook up 1 receiver (I have 5 total) and I did the rest myself. The hardest part really is mounting and pointing the dish so you might as well let them do that part.

The official answer would be that Express Vu will have to do the installation in order that you get the Dish etc.

I would book the installation let the Tech mount the Dish, run you 1 line (2 lines if you have a Dual Tuner receiver and a Backfeed as well), this will be done free of charge.

After he leaves hook up your other receivers and enjoy.

My Company is told that the Installer will provide free of charge, "All equipment required to give the Customer the same level of service they had at the previous residence".

In English it means if you had 2 x SW44's at the old house, you will get that again at your new house.

Only exception is an 8 Way Multiswitch, that is always billable at $150.

The Gray area is that if 2 x SW44's are installed you might get charged for the 3 additional lines from the Dish to a point inside, no one can clarify this point.

Nimiq, when you run the cabling, is it done in the walls, or is it done along baseboards, around doorframes, etc., like the subs for Rogers do (or at least did) in Ottawa? I'd hate to get a free install only to see lengths of exposed cable running along my walls, and stapled every few feet or so. I know a lot depends on the site, but do they at least try to run the wiring int he walls?

Not planning on moving just curious. What happens if you do the moving program and take your old dish anyways?

Barter, you've got the same scenario I had several months ago, i.e. we were moving, I wanted the "free move" deal, but had multiple receivers I wanted to install myself. Everything went fine until I got the first post-move bill and saw I'd been charged $250 for "multiple receiver" installs. Took 6 friggin months and at least a dozen calls to finally get the charge reversed. IIRC, AEV (as she then was) and Nimiq both posted that the BEV default position is to charge any multiple receiver account with a move order for a multiple receiver install, irrespective of whether a multiple receiver install actually occurs. The fact that I emphatically instructed the installer to do a single receiver install and that is exactly what he did (which he noted on the work order, a copy of which I received) was ultimately irrelevant - there appears to be no protocol whereby BEV reviews a work order and confirms whether a multiple receiver install actually occurred prior to billing you for it.

As to why it took me 6 months & dozens of calls to get the charged reversed, only BEV can answer that. All I can say is that, as a result of the experience, there are likely to be lots of BEV receivers for sale cheap at the next neighbourhood garage sale

The policy is "No wall fishing" period.

The Tech may fish but that will be his decision.

Official answer is, that the Tech will use the new Dish he brings and not even touch your Dish.

However, lots of Techs seem to think that if they use your Dish, they can then take the new Dish that was for your installation home and sell it.....lol

Trust me this happens hundreds of times.....

Just an FYI.

Express Vu do not see the Work Order that you signed with the Technician, UNLESS there is a query sometime down the road. These Work Orders are stored at the Installation Companies office.

When you call in to say you were over charged, Express Vu ask for a "copy" of the Work Order, this is normally faxed to them. At no time do Express Vu get the original, even though there is one copy that is for them.

Also if you were charged for a 5 receiver Move, then it follows that the Installation Company got paid for a 5 Receiver Move. Not all installation Companies have a Database set up to watch for this and some will ignore any over-payments because Express Vu are constantly charging them back (read deducting huge amounts) for other indiscretions.

Your refund would then be at the mercy of the Installation Company getting a copy of the Work Order to Express Vu in a timely fashion which is not always in their interest.

One suggestion is to emphasize when booking the Move that it is for one receiver only.

DO NOT per run lines and have the tech hook your receivers onto these lines, this WILL result in you being charged for ALL lines.

Keep in mind, if you are renting, you have to pay for the installation, if I'm not mistaken
I can see them insisting on this, as I have seen quiet a few "self" installs in my neighborhood, and they are less than stellar
Always take all of your own equipment, if you can
Switches, LNBS are expensive, and if you have spares, why not

I had the same problem when I moved. I was also billed for a multiple receiver installation and it took me forever to convince the rep that even though I had more than 1 receiver, the installer didn't wire for more than 1.

I don't know why it took the rep so long to make the connection but he finally did and I got the credit after explaining it over and over.

When you book your order ask that they do it in OM and ask the confirmatioon number...

That application is much more precise since it does ask how many receivers client has, and how many are to be profeassionally installed. The other application we use to book a move (OMX) doesn't ask that question, so by default I think the extra receivers automatically gets charged.

If you have multiple Bell services with Bell they will tell you that they can do an all in one move. Don't include your Express Vu in it, do a second separate call to EV. Most mve orders were we have problems are those booked by Bell as part of an all in one move

Agent there is no 'we' anymore. There is you, and there is BEV and you work for Fido.
Please do not continue to spread mis-information that you cannot back up with factual data.

Nem, who doesn't much like shenanigans or the improper use of plural pronouns

Not the first time that the all in one move is discussed on DH...

I don't think that the process as chaned much since I got fired 3 weeks go... Most of the time that I had to deal with a problematic move order it was an order booked as part of an "all in one move" by Bell. There is also lots of issues with the internet move
