Movies you thought you were going to hate but ended up loving

I knew id like moulin rouge... its one of my faves.

the trailer for 'the descent' looked like a really really awful film, but it is really really good!!! REALLY good!

Lord Of The Ring!!! we bought it cheap in an offer without ever seeing it and didnt get round to watching it for a good 3 months!!! but i loved it and have loved the other 2 following too!!! its absolutly brilliant and a classic!! :D

Not being a big horror fan, I didn't think I'd enjoy Final Destination but I absolutely loved it! Probably not a good idea to watch it four days before I did a 12-hour flight to Thailand, however......

Phone Booth was the one I didn't want to watch. Hubby asked me to watch the start as Colin Farrell stanRAB right outside the hotel we had stayed in a few weeks before. I got hooked and really enjoyed it.

Constantine

Not being a Reeves fan I really had to force myself to see it and I'm glad I did cos I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out over here

'Runaway Jury'

Both my brother and I went to see it when we were bored. We thought it was going to be your typical overly-long & mediocre Grisham conversion, but both said afterwarRAB (almost in unison as a matter of fact), "... actually, that was quite good ..."

three kings springs to mind.

the trailer totally mis-sold it as a bog standard action adventure, when in fact it was actually had a far more involving, and fairly political, element to it.

Like the poster above, avoided Castaway as I don't generally like Tom Hanks, but actually really enjoyed it.

Thought Titanic would be sentimental drivel, but did actually love it (and blubbed my way through the ending :o )

However, the best surprise of all was the Lord of the Rings films - I adore the books and was really nervous about going to see the first film, but was absolutely blown away by how good it was, and the trilogy just got better!

I avoided Dumb and Dumber for years because it just looked TOO stupid and just basic humour. I eventually saw it in the end and i absoloutely loved it.

Same thing for me with "Me Myself & Irene" my boyfriend had it on DVD and I refused to watch it due to my hatred of Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger but I actually loved it.

Most of them ! I have low expectations these days.

Seriously though, Shaun Of The Dead (didn't like Spaced and expected more of the same), Shattered Glass (Hayden Christian), Billy Elliott (ballet dancing miners ?!), The Full Monty (a low-budget British 'comedy' that's actually funny? I thought no way can that be true), The Truman Show (not a Carrey fan, but in this he showed he can be restrained).

Shaun of the Dead I agree with, it looked really cheap and rubbish. And I also thought I'd hate Moulin Rouge and avoided it in the cinema, but it's one of my favourite films now. I don't know though, I'm generally pretty open minded.
