North By Northwest
Being John Malkovich
All About Eve

I'd like to say Sweeney Todd but Bonham Carter really f**ked that one up!

Blimey, there's films on this thread that would barely scrape 4/10 from me*, but that's not the point, is it.

10/10:

A Canterbury Tale
Magnolia
Elephant
Vertigo
Eyes Wide Shut

& lots more, but they'll do for now.

*yes, it's you I'm looking at, American Beauty.

Just one film really - the masterpiece that is

JAWS

However,
Marathon Man
Die Hard
First Blood

Back to the Future

Are all excellent films

The usual classics such as:

The Graduate
Star Wars,The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
Goodfellas
The Dollars Trilogy

Ghostbusters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Alien & Aliens
Rear Window

+ many more.

From the past 10 years:
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mystic River
The Changeling
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2
Wall-E
The Bourne Trilogy

It's very under-rated. :)
For some reason it's considered contraversial to say it's better than Silence Of The Lambs. I think it's in a whole other league to SOTLs. It's superb!

I want to add a couple more:
Dangerous Liasons
Goldfinger (Honor Blackman looking stunning, as does Connery, Odd Job, the style, the humour, the theme).
Shirley Valentine
The Lady Killers
in fact there's loaRAB more that many of you have mentioned above I could go one forever.

They change over the years. For example I once rated A Clockwork Orange that way, now I think it's nothing like as good.

At the moment my present 10/10 would probably be Avatar.

I kinda rate Kill Bill up there too, maybe.

RegarRAB

Mark

Aliens
The Empire Strikes Back
Moon
The Truman Show (more relevant now than ever)
The Dark Crystal
The Matrix
Goodfellas
The Karate Kid
The Goonies
Ghostbusters
The Terminator
The Ring
Avatar

(a lot of my films have "The" in the title don't they?)

I struggle to rate anything a true '10'; when people discuss such scales, it often seems that they are prepared to ascribe 1s, 2s and even 3 or 4s to things they might have been interested in 'little bits' of, but quite patently 'didn't like' on the whole. Personally, a 1 would represent the lowest end of the 'good' scale; it seems a waste of time 'scoring' anything more mediocre than that.

I think I'd be inclined to give unequivocal 10s to: Ken Russell's The Devils; Roman Polanski's Repulsion; Dario Argento's Deep Red; Hitchcock's Psycho; Brian DePalma's Dressed To Kill; Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West; Sidney Lumet's Fail-Safe; and Jacques Demy's Umbrellas of Cherbourg; off the top of my head and by no means exclusively.

I won't deny such a selection belies a certain genre bias, which is to say I'm always happiest when there's something fantastical and/or operatic about the nature of the film itself. Certain genres - particularly horror, science fiction, action - always have this inherent, even if the film themselves are crap. Very often however a drama or, even worse, thriller done 'straight', which I might see publically lauded, entirely fails to rouse me - such things belong firmly on television.
