Is it me or are Channel Five showing uncut US versions of movies they show??

Past examples are movies like Memphis Belle and Lethal Weapon 2.

Both were the uncut US versions yet, they're not available in that format on video or DVD in the UK.

How come Channel Five get to show them in this form. I thought stations could only show movies in the format passed by the BBFC?
 
Sky have also recently shown the 2 Lethal Weapons uncut along with a few others that made me sit up and think - I can't remember seeing that before -. More films are now being re-released un-cut and looks like both Ch5 and Sky have had their hanRAB on a few recently. But of course, the uncut versions still have to be vetted by the BBFC, which now that new certificates are available seem to release more films uncut.
 
all of a sudden at about 1999, the BBFC became liberals, and pretty much allowed us to watch films as the director intended.

Sky Movies Premier also shows movies uncut.
E.g. "American Psycho". There is an unrated version available on DVD in the US (20 sec. more footage). I thought it would only be available on this particular DVD but was shown recently including the 20 sec. on Sky.
