Movie double acts that are no more...

Inspired by the thread about the Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence movie Life...

I got to thinking about actors who had previously had successful pairings with other actors, and made a couple series of successful movies together, but when they have gone their seperate ways one actor is successful and the other one has struggled.

Martin Lawrence made the Bad Boys movies with Will Smith, and though Smith went on to be a huge star, Lawrence has struggled with a lot of low-rent comedies (Yes, Big Momma's House 3 is on the way).

Dana Carvey was in the hugely successful Waynes World with Mike Myers, but while Myers star ascended, poor Carvey cannot get arrested.

And the question is...why? I think both of the above named actors are very funny and very talented in their own right. Just look at Carvey's Saturday Night Live career for evidence of that, or Lawrences very funny stand-up act.

In fact, I would go as far as to say that I actually prefer these guys to their more successful counterparts. Smith for me is vastly overrated, and Myers generally leaves me cold.

So - is it a question of bad choices of movies, or bad advice from others, poorly written scripts...what?
