Moved to Windows Phone 7 from 5800 - First Impressions

Thats the point - "there is a setting...". The neat thing about WP7 is that it just works (for the things that work). Put in your Gmail id and password, and thats it. No putting in the imap server, setting to retrieve the entire message, etc. Sure, the downside is that it permits for limited flexibility which I already pointed out.

So you don't that we should be able to choose to use headers or full emails, that seems strange? I doubt most people prefer full email vis-?-vis only headers. Btw, I put in the gmail id and the pw, nothing else.

I think its natural that you would want to see the entire email, not just the header. The header thing was relevant in the days when most people paid by the MB, but with unlimited data plans, I expect email on the phone to work like email on my PC.
Some people may prefer just the header, and WP7 will not allow that, limited flexibility being one of its drawbacks.

Its not just the gmail id and password that you put in, you also had to enable the setting to retrieve the full email (as you mentioned earlier). Also, maybe this changed in Symbian 3, but in v5, the mailbox would disconnect, and when I got the new mail notification and clicked on the icon, it would first spend 10 secs or so connecting to the mailbox before retrieving the email. Is that not the case in Symbian 3?

Yes that has changed, I have a widget where I see my emails come in and when I click the widget I can go directly into the full email. Btw, I am not sure it isn't setup by default for full emails because I can't say I remember ever changing it? Hopefully the new windows phone can be a viable alternative to all other phone OS, the more the merrier. Btw, I don't think there are any unlocked windows phone for purchase through a regular seller like Amazon which means that I could never get one unless that is changed. I will never ever get a phone through a carrier for multiple reasons.

S^3 does this too. Put in your Gmail ID and you're all done. It also worked like this for my MXed Gmail. Retrieve full/header is an option but I don't recall which is default. I don't see a problem.

There are much greater concerns with the S^3 e-mail client than these ones. How about no integration with cloud-based contacts or meetings or anything?

That is most likely however I get up at 6am (full charge) and then to bed at 11pm and my Focus still has plenty of poop so its been a non-issue for me.

Having it connect to WiFi with zero interaction is exactly what I was looking for...

Yes, the Mango update is going to be huge if the carriers 'allow' MS to roll-it-out in our lifetime that is...

I would kill for a Citrix Client, a real Live Messenger Client, and BING turn-by-turn but other than that the unit is perfect for me...

Many. All the Samsung Androids with Touchwiz including Galaxy S comes with a free bundle. All the Androids with HTC Sense. I believe all the Androids with Motoblur too. Also GMail will also do it for you without need for any app. Both on the mobile and desktop. Among the Nokia and Symbians, all the E series comes with a bundle too.

Since this thread is about WP7 and Symbian, I am asking specifically for the Symbian platforms. What is the name of Office app come bundled with the E-series?
